SEND Teaching AssistantAxminster & Surrounding Village Schools | Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities | September 2026 Start
Are you apassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in the Axminster area?
Hays Education is working in partnership with a number of weing village primary schools around Axminster to recruit SEND Teaching Assistants for the new academic year. We have both full-time and part-time opportunities available, supporting children with a range of additional needs in inclusive and nurturing school environments.This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced SEND professionals, Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, or individuals with transferable experience who are passionate about helping children achieve their full potential.
The RoleAs a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, helping them access learning, develop confidence, and make progress both academically and socially.Roles may involve:

  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs
  • Supporting small group interventions across the school day
  • Assisting children withmunication, social and emotional development
  • Working alongside class teachers and SENDCOs to implement support plans
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Supporting pupils with needs including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, and moderate learning difficulties


What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting SEND pupils is highly desirable
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach
  • Strongmunication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a school team

We wee applications from experienced Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Support Workers, Youth Workers, Nursery Practitioners, and individuals with personal or professional SEND experience.
