Technical Author & Committee Secretary

Part-Time Contract | Remote Working | Regular Meetings in Manchester

Rate: Negotiable

Contract Length: September to December 2026 (potential to extend until July 2027)

Membership Bespoke is delighted to be supporting a respected UK technical and engineering membership organisation with the recruitment of a Technical Author & Committee Secretary on a part-time contract basis.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technical writing professional who thrives in autonomous environments and enjoys working closely with engineers, technical specialists, committees, and senior stakeholders. Combining technical authoring, committee secretariat, and administration responsibilities, this role will play a vital part in maintaining and developing industry guidance during an important period of organisational change.

The successful candidate will take ownership of multiple workstreams, ensuring technical committees operate effectively while reviewing, updating, and standardising key technical guidance documents in line with quality management requirements.

The Role

This is a highly autonomous position requiring a proactive individual who can confidently manage competing priorities, make informed decisions, and deliver outcomes with minimal day-to-day supervision.

Acting as both a Technical Author and the primary administrative lead for committee activities, you will oversee the smooth running of technical committees while driving forward complex documentation projects across multiple working groups.

Whilst the role offers significant independence, regular support will be available through weekly prioritisation meetings with senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Committee Secretariat

  • Attend regular technical committee meetings in Manchester (1-2 times a week).
  • Produce accurate minutes, action logs, and records of decisions.
  • Track and proactively follow up on agreed actions and deliverables.
  • Ensure meeting documentation is distributed promptly and accurately.
  • Build effective relationships with committee chairs, members, and stakeholders.
  • Provide continuity and administrative leadership across multiple committees and working groups.

Committee Administration

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of committee activities.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Manage committee diaries, correspondence, agendas, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor and manage a shared mailbox, responding to and actioning committee-related enquiries.
  • Establish and maintain Microsoft Teams channels and SharePoint document libraries for working groups.
  • Act as the primary administrative point of contact for committee members and stakeholders.

Technical Authoring

  • Review, update, rewrite, and standardise technical guidance documentation.
  • Ensure publications align with ISO 9001 quality management principles and document control requirements.
  • Gather technical information from engineers and subject matter experts and transform it into clear, structured guidance.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Drive consistency of formatting, tone, structure, and presentation across technical publications.
  • Independently prioritise and coordinate work across several concurrent working groups and document review programmes.

Stakeholder & Workstream Management

  • Manage your own workload and priorities across several active projects.
  • Make informed decisions regarding task prioritisation, resource allocation, and deadlines.
  • Identify risks, delays, and bottlenecks and proactively implement solutions.
  • Participate in weekly review meetings with senior leadership to align priorities and discuss progress.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Author, Technical Writer, or similar technical documentation professional.
  • Excellent written communication and document management skills.
  • Strong minute-taking, administration, and organisational abilities.
  • Experience working with engineers, technical specialists, committees, or subject matter experts.
  • The confidence to challenge constructively, seek clarification, and drive actions to completion.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of working independently and managing competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • A proactive and highly self-motivated approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills, including practical experience using Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
  • The ability to attend regular in-person meetings in Manchester.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Experience working within regulated, engineering, technical, or membership-based environments.
  • Previous experience managing shared inboxes, diaries, committee administration, or executive support activities.

Contract Details

  • September to December 2026 (potential Extension to July 2027)
  • Meetings: 1-2 per week, all in Manchester (near Piccadilly Station)
  • Work Pattern: Remote
  • Hours: Fractional/part‑time
  • Rate: Negotiable; travel may be covered for the right candidate
