The Role
This is an opportunity to join one of Scotland’s most well known Clinical Negligence teams, recognised by both L500 and Chambers UK for its expertise. Working with a respected Scottish firm, you’ll become part of a team that acts for a wide range of professionals, including healthcare professionals and other regulated individuals, providing high-quality advice and representation throughout complex and often sensitive proceedings.
Based in Edinburgh with hybrid working available, this role offers the chance to work on challenging and varied matters across Scotland, from clinical negligence claims through to professional regulatory investigations and hearings.
You’ll be involved throughout the lifecycle of cases, gaining exposure to pre-litigation strategy, investigations, court processes and advocacy opportunities, while working alongside experienced colleagues in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Work
- Defending healthcare professionals in clinical negligence claims across the Court of Session,
Sheriff Courts and ASPIC
Instructing experts and counsel where appropriate
Building strong relationships with clients, insurers and professional organisations
Representing professionals at Fatal Accident Inquiries and other related proceedings
Supporting business development and contributing to the continued growth of the team
Advising regulated professionals, including doctors, dentists and teachers, in professional disciplinary matters
Managing cases from initial investigation through to litigation and hearings
Preparing witness statements, pleadings and other legal documentation
Attending hearings and developing advocacy experience
Advising clients throughout complex and high-pressure situations
Your Experience
- Scottish Qualified Solicitor with 1-4 years PQE
Experience within clinical negligence, professional discipline, insurance litigation or a related contentious area would be beneficial
Strong understanding of Scottish court procedures, including Sheriff Court and Court of Session processes
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trusted client relationships
Calm and confident approach when dealing with sensitive and challenging matters
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload
A proactive approach to business development and networking
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a specialist team
