Roadside Technician - Green Flag Patrol

Applying for this role is straight forward Scroll down and click on Apply to be considered for this position.

Base salary £37,740 + OTE up to £44,000

This is a great job for someone who’s ready for a role where their mechanical skills genuinely make a difference.

At Green Flag, we’re growing our breakdown services and putting our people at the heart of everything we do. When someone’s car lets them down, you step in as the hero of the moment - getting them back on the road and taking the stress out of an unexpected situation.

We’re now part of Aviva, so joining us as an Aviva colleague means you’ll be backed by the strength and support of the UK’s leading diversified insurer while enjoying one of the most attractive work-life balance offerings in the industry.

With a four-day working week, no night shifts and the ability to start and finish your day from home, you’ll have more time for the things that matter outside of work.

A bit about the job:

  • Be the first point of contact for drivers who have broken down, providing expert roadside support

Diagnose vehicle faults and carry out minor repairs to get customers back on the road quickly

Complete practical tasks such as tyre repairs/changes, battery testing and replacement, and fuel assistance

Deliver clear explanations and reassurance, helping customers feel calm and supported in stressful situations

Use a fully equipped Green Flag vehicle and tools to safely resolve issues across your area

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • A strong mechanical background with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills

Full UK Category B driving licence and aged 21+ (for insurance purposes)

NVQ Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance (or equivalent) preferred — or relevant hands-on experience/apprenticeship

Up-to-date knowledge of repair techniques and a strong commitment to safe working practices

Confidence working independently, with a calm, friendly, and empathetic approach to customers

This is a permanent, field‑based role where you start and finish your day from home.

You’ll work 40 hours across four days a week, with shifts between 7am–8pm, Monday to Sunday. While work is planned within these hours, finish times may vary depending on the job at hand.

Overtime is available, but completely optional.

Areas to cover in this role: Cheltenham I Stroud I Cirencester I Swindon I Chippenham I Devizes I Melksham I Didcot I Wantage I Abingdon I Oxford I Bicester I Thame I Witney I Tewkesbury

What you’ll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you. We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

  • Starting salary of £37,740 (with the possibility to earn up to £44,000 with overtime)

Bonus opportunity - actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s

Generous pension scheme eg if you put in 8%, Aviva adds 14%

25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days

Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it

Make your money go further - up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts

Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme

Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave

Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work

Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others

We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools

Aviva is for Everyone

We’re inclusive and welcome everyone – we want applications from all backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Even if you don’t, we would still encourage you to apply. We also consider all forms of flexible working, including part time and job shares.
