Commercial Finance Business Partner - Hospitality - London To act as the dedicated commercial finance partner for Fortnum & Mason's Hospitality business, supporting the Operational Leadership Team with insight, challenge and decision support across restaurants, caf s, bars, private dining and production kitchen operations.
The role will help drive profitable growth by translating Hospitality trading performance into clear commercial actions, with a particular focus on sales, covers, daypart trends, labour productivity, menu profitability, guest behaviour and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with Hospitality leaders to highlight risks and opportunities, strengthen forecasting and budgeting discipline, and support decisions that improve contribution while protecting the quality of the guest experience. The successful candidate will have prior hospitality business partnering experience.
Key Accountabilities:
Business Partnering & Insights
Act as the key finance partner to the Hospitality leadership team, providing clear, practical and commercially focused insight to support operational decision-making.
Provide weekly trading commentary across Hospitality, highlighting key risks, opportunities and recommended actions to maximise performance and mitigate emerging trends.
Deliver weekly payroll analysis, identifying labour cost variances, productivity opportunities and investment requirements based on trading performance, including TRONC and base pay considerations.
Lead monthly P&L reviews with Hospitality leadership, focusing on profitability drivers, delivery against budget and progression of the Three-Year Plan.
Track legislative and regulatory changes affecting Hospitality, including NMW and TRONC, and assess the commercial impact and potential mitigating actions.
Partner with the Customer Insights team to develop a deeper understanding of Hospitality customer behaviour, acquisition and retention trends.
Own the calculation and monitoring of production kitchen profitability, working with Hospitality and Retail teams to optimise labour deployment, capacity utilisation and commercial returns.
Reporting and Performance Analysis
Develop and maintain Hospitality Power BI dashboards covering sales, covers, daypart performance, table turns, menu mix, margin and labour productivity.
Provide analysis of promotional activity, Virgin Experience Days, membership initiatives and their impact on key commercial KPIs.
Prepare Hospitality commentary for the month-end Board Pack, providing clear, concise and actionable insight into business performance.
Deliver regional performance analysis, identifying sales trends and partnering with Marketing to understand the effectiveness of regional activity plans.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Own and lead the annual hospitality budget, forecasting and operational planning processes.
Ensure budgets and forecasts are developed using a robust KPI-driven approach, with clear regional visibility and accountability.
Partner with Hospitality leadership to secure alignment and timely sign-off of budgets, forecasts and strategic assumptions.
Strategic Planning
Own the Hospitality Three-Year Plan, ensuring strategic initiatives, investment benefits and operational improvements are appropriately reflected in financial models.
Develop performance tracking mechanisms to measure benefit realisation, monitor project delivery and capture learnings for future investment decisions.
Maintain awareness of market trends, competitor activity and industry developments through external benchmarking, networking and attendance at relevant conferences and industry events.
Projects and Commercial Evaluation
Evaluate new business proposals and strategic initiatives through robust commercial appraisal, including scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis, ROI and IRR assessment.
Ensure investment proposals meet agreed financial hurdles and align with Fortnum's strategic priorities.
Support business decision-making through ad hoc financial modelling, analysis and commercial insight for senior stakeholders.
Role Specific Criteria (Experience/Behaviours/Technical Ability)
We expect the successful candidate to have the following skills and experience:
ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified or part qualified
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills,
Experience in using AI to drive efficiencies and insights (desired)
Ability to develop data platforms and commercial reports. Proven track record in delivering and creating company reports.
Experience in multi-unit retail/restaurant environments (must have)
Strong leadership experience
Highest standards of accuracy and precision;
Highly organized and an ability to multi task at speed.
Articulate with excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated
Use of Business intelligence platform, such as Power BI, D365 or similar tools (desired)
Ability to manage objections and conflicts in an effective way (desired)
