Job Description

MRICS Building Surveyor
London / Nottingham | £45,000 - £60,000 + Benefits | Hybrid & Flexible Working

\n We're working with a well-established, independent construction consultancy with a history spanning more than 50 years and a growing Building Surveying team.

\n Due to an increase in work, this consultancy is looking for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to join their close-knit team in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a varied role across public and private sector projects, with the flexibility to work between London and Nottingham.

The Role
\n This is a genuinely varied Building Surveying position, with no two weeks likely to look the same.

\n You'll be involved in projects from initial inspection and investigation through to reporting, specification, procurement and delivery. The role will involve working closely with clients, contractors and other professional teams, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of your projects and develop strong client relationships.

\n Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

\n
    \n
  • Carrying out building condition surveys across a diverse range of properties
  • \n
  • Undertaking defect diagnosis and building pathology investigations, identifying causes and recommending appropriate remedial solutions
  • \n
  • Completing damp and mould surveys and preparing detailed technical reports
  • \n
  • Undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM) surveys for education, healthcare and public sector properties
  • \n
  • Carrying out measured surveys and producing drawings using AutoCAD
  • \n
  • Preparing schedules of condition, specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation
  • \n
  • Providing advice on repair, maintenance and refurbishment requirements
  • \n
  • Acting as Contract Administrator on refurbishment and maintenance projects
  • \n
  • Managing projects from inception through to completion, including monitoring programmes, costs, quality and risk
  • \n
  • Assisting with procurement and tender exercises, including reviewing contractor returns and making recommendations
  • \n
  • Carrying out regular site inspections and monitoring works against specifications
  • \n
  • Investigating insurance claims and building defects, providing technical advice and supporting the claims process
  • \n
  • Undertaking dilapidations surveys and reports
  • \n
  • Preparing professional reports and presenting findings and recommendations to clients
  • \n
  • Managing multiple instructions and projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • \n
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients and other project stakeholders
  • \n
\n

Project values typically range from around £25,000 to £250,000 +, with the portfolio spanning residential, healthcare, education, public sector and commercial property.

What they're looking for
\n We're looking for an experienced MRICS Building Surveyor who is comfortable working across a broad range of instructions and can manage their own workload.

\n You'll ideally have:

\n
    \n
  • MRICS qualification
  • \n
  • Strong general Building Surveying experience
  • \n
  • Contract Administration experience
  • \n
  • Experience undertaking condition and defect surveys
  • \n
  • Strong report writing and technical knowledge
  • \n
  • AutoCAD experience
  • \n
  • Good knowledge of building pathology and remedial works
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • \n
  • The confidence to deal directly with clients and contractors
  • \n
  • A full UK driving licence would be advantageous due to the site-based nature of some of the work
  • \n
\n

Experience within the public sector or historic buildings would be particularly beneficial.
Package & Benefits

\n
    \n
  • £45,000 - £60,000 salary, depending on experience
  • \n
  • 27 days annual leave, including three days over Christmas
  • \n
  • Hybrid working
  • \n
  • Flexible working hours
  • \n
  • Professional subscriptions and fees paid
  • \n
  • Performance-related bonus opportunities
  • \n
  • Travel expenses covered
\n Genuine opportunities for progression as the Building Surveying team continues to grow
  • \n
\n

If you're based in London, Nottingham or somewhere with easy access to both, and are looking for a new challenge, apply now!
