Our technical teams address every aspect of civil engineering design, working in close collaboration with the full breadth of Arup’s other design and engineering disciplines.

The Opportunity

Arup’s Civil Engineering team is looking to recruit a Civil Engineer to join our Manchester team, supporting the delivery of strategic masterplanning and infrastructure projects across the UK. The role will work closely with senior engineers to help clients shape major development and regeneration proposals from the earliest stages of project definition through to delivery planning.

Our work focuses on the infrastructure challenges associated with large-scale urban extensions, new town/residential area, regeneration schemes, healthcare developments, employment sites and nationally significant infrastructure projects. A key aspect of the role will be helping clients understand how development can be supported by integrated infrastructure strategies, utility networks and phased delivery plans.

You will work within multidisciplinary teams alongside, other civil engineers as well as planners, transport planners, environmental specialists, architects, energy consultants and structural engineers to develop robust and deliverable designs.

We are looking for someone with experience in civil engineering design who is passionate about delivering critical infrastructure and creating sustainable engineering solutions. We recognise that great engineers develop their expertise through different career paths and experiences, and we encourage applications from people whose experience may not align perfectly with every area listed below.

You may have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Site development and infrastructure design

  • Drainage and flood risk management

  • Earthworks and levels design

  • Utilities coordination and diversion planning

  • Highways and access design

  • Data centre infrastructure projects

  • Energy, utilities or transmission projects

  • Design management and multidisciplinary coordination

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the development of infrastructure strategies for major masterplanning and development projects.
  • Preparing Infrastructure Delivery Plans (IDPs) to inform planning, business cases and investment decisions.
  • Developing utility strategies covering water, wastewater, power, telecommunications and other key utility networks. Inclding utility provdier engagement.
  • Developing drainage and flood risk strategies
  • Assessing infrastructure constraints, opportunities and capacity requirements for development sites.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary technical inputs to support masterplans and development frameworks.

What we are looking for

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate a combination of the following skills,

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • interested in candidates who can demonstrate some of the following:

  • Experience delivering site development, water, utilities or major infrastructure projects
  • Experience using design software such as Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD or similar packages
  • An interest in digital design, BIM and/or automation within engineering delivery
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to problem solving
  • Progression toward or achievement of professional chartership (ICE or equivalent) would be advantageous
