Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused General Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive primary care team. Essential
  • GMC registration with licence to practise

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake face-to-face, telephone, and digital consultations for patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management plans in line with current clinical guidelines and NHS Wales standards.
  • Prescribe medications safely and appropriately, ensuring adherence to local prescribing policies and formularies.
  • Manage and monitor patients with long-term conditions, including participation in chronic disease management programmes.
  • Promote preventative healthcare, health screening, vaccination programmes, and patient education initiatives.
  • Make timely referrals to secondary care, community services, and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records using the practice clinical system in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, mental health practitioners, and administrative staff.
  • Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement activities, significant event reviews, and audit processes.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the managed practice, supporting service development and the delivery of accessible primary care services across the local community.
  • Provide supervision to trainees, medical students, or other healthcare professionals where appropriate.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team, providing high-quality, patient-centred medical services to the registered population of a managed practice within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The role involves delivering comprehensive general medical services, promoting continuity of care, and supporting the ongoing development of safe, effective, and sustainable primary care services across North Wales.

The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the values of NHS Wales, the General Medical Council (GMC), and the Health Board, ensuring the delivery of compassionate, evidence-based care that meets the needs of a diverse patient population.

Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will:
  • Provide comprehensive primary medical care to patients of all ages through face-to-face, telephone, video, and home visit consultations where clinically appropriate.
  • Assess, investigate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions using evidence-based practice.
  • Deliver holistic, patient-centred care that promotes shared decision-making and supports patients in managing their own health.
  • Undertake routine and urgent consultations, ensuring timely assessment and management of presenting conditions.
  • Prescribe medicines safely, effectively, and economically in accordance with NHS Wales prescribing guidance and local formularies.
  • Request, interpret, and act upon appropriate diagnostic investigations.
  • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services, and other healthcare professionals where clinically indicated.
  • Manage patients with long-term conditions in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver preventative healthcare, including health promotion, immunisation, screening, and lifestyle interventions.
  • Provide palliative and end-of-life care, working collaboratively with specialist teams where appropriate.
  • Undertake home visits where clinically necessary.

Patient Safety and Clinical Governance
The post holder will:
  • Maintain high standards of clinical care in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and Health Board policies.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, significant event analysis, and clinical governance activities.
  • Identify and report clinical risks, incidents, and patient safety concerns in accordance with organisational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant clinical records using the practice's electronic patient record system.
  • Participate in annual appraisal, revalidation, mandatory training, and continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control, safeguarding, confidentiality, information governance, and health and safety requirements.

Multidisciplinary Team Working
The post holder will:
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associates, Healthcare Support Workers, Community Teams, and administrative colleagues.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions where appropriate.
  • Support integrated working across primary, community, and secondary care services.
  • Build effective relationships with local healthcare providers, social care services, voluntary organisations, and community partners.

Operational Responsibilities
The post holder will:
  • Participate in the practice duty doctor rota and contribute to same-day access services.
  • Manage clinical workload efficiently while maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Support effective appointment utilisation and service delivery within the managed practice.
  • Contribute to the achievement of national and local quality standards and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in practice meetings, educational sessions, and Health Board initiatives as required.
  • Assist with service development and implementation of new models of care where appropriate.

Teaching, Training and Professional Development
The post holder will:
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education and CPD.
  • Participate in appraisal and GMC revalidation requirements.
  • Contribute to the education and supervision of medical students, GP trainees, foundation doctors, or other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
  • Support the learning and development of colleagues within the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MRCGP (Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners)
  • Independent Prescribing
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and entry on the GP Register Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent
  • Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible.
  • Experience in general practice and working in multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Other relevant specialist interests & skills

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE ABILITY
Essential
  • Proven ability to handle a busy and varied primary care caseload and respond flexibly to workload fluctuations

  • Ability to draft letters, reports and protocols in a timely manner
