We are looking to recruit a Registered Band 5 Staff Nurses to join the enthusiastic team on the Acute Medical Unit.

Job Summary:
  • Be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care
  • Supervise junior staff and to participate in the teaching of students on both basic and post basic courses
  • Maintain his/her personal and professional development
  • Participate in effective utilisation of resources
  • Act in accordance with the NMC Professional Code of Conduct

Proven post registration experience is required for this role.

Main duties of the job
Our Acute Medical Unit is a busy, fast-paced 50-bedded department, offering an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills and knowledge across multiple specialties. Working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will gain valuable experience in the assessment, treatment and management of acutely unwell patients in a supportive, challenging and rewarding environment.

Main Duties
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for acutely unwell patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit
  • Monitor patients' clinical condition, recognising and responding promptly to signs of deterioration
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards
  • Undertake a range of clinical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, catheterisation and intravenous therapy
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and facilitate timely discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date patient records and documentation
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centred care while supporting patients and their families throughout their admission
  • Prioritise and manage workload effectively within a busy and fast-paced environment
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention and safeguarding practices at all times
  • Support, supervise and mentor junior staff, students and new team members as appropriate

  • Degree / Diploma in Nursing studies or equivalent

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) IT
