Job summary
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the Stroke Therapy Team within the 21-bed Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.

As Clinical Lead OT, you will provide clinical leadership for Occupational Therapy services, delivering high-quality, evidence-based stroke rehabilitation that enables patients to maximise independence and quality of life. Working within a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support excellent patient outcomes, staff development, and service improvement.

The unit is a key part of the UHDB stroke pathway, providing specialist rehabilitation for patients transferring from the Acute Stroke Unit at Royal Derby Hospital. You will collaborate closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nursing and Medical colleagues.

Main duties of the job
As Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, you will provide leadership for the Occupational Therapy service within the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based stroke rehabilitation.

The role involves advanced assessment and treatment of patients with complex physical, cognitive and perceptual impairments, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to maximise outcomes and promote independence. You will support and develop Occupational Therapists, Therapy Support Workers and students through supervision, education and clinical leadership, while contributing to service development, quality improvement and best practice initiatives.

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist with:
  • Significant experience in stroke and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Advanced assessment and treatment skills for complex stroke patients.
  • Knowledge of national stroke guidelines, NICE guidance and evidence-based practice.
  • Experience of leadership, supervision and staff development.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • A commitment to person-centred care and continuous service improvement.
  • The ability to work autonomously and lead effectively within a team.
