Job summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting secondment opportunity in the maternity clinical education and practice development team.

As a Senior Clinical Educator (band 7) you will supportthe development of our maternity workforce and students. This is a unique opportunity to gain new skills that will prepare you for any career path, including how to influence practice, build an effective learning environment, and achieve excellent care outcomes for women.

This is an exciting period for the education team. We have the opportunity to revisit and build strong education provision on the foundation of clear guidance from the Maternity and Perinatal Investment Scheme and findings in recent reviews of maternity services. We are looking for candidates who have the passion for midwifery and physiological labour to seize the opportunity to lead the way inside and outside the department.

This role requires an ability to use observation and evidence to diagnose problems in practice and develop effective interventions in response. You will have the opportunity to carry projects through from conception to evaluation and gain insights into how health systems function. We will invest in your education and give you support to develop these skills, which will form the basis of your future career.

Senior Clinical Educators will be able to:
  • Act as an exemplary role model for best clinical practice and Trust values
  • Work to an agreed job plan to maximise education delivery to support staff and patient safety/experience.
  • Supervise and manage clinical educators to promote effective working across the education team.
  • Use expert knowledge to actively promote and contribute to a positive inter-professional learning environment
  • Deliver education programmes at a departmental level level and where required cross divisionally in support of organisational priorities.
  • Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
  • Manage and lead education teams
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate education programmes
  • Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
  • Work with clinical management to anticipate and address the educational needs of the service
  • Work across boundaries to proactively develop and sustain partnerships
  • Identify and support audit, service improvement and research projects
  • Actively participate in the 24/7 bleep holder roster

Person Specification
Education, Training, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
  • Registered Midwife
  • UK Health related recognised Degree, relevant to post
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of NMC
  • Appropriate period of post-registration midwifery experience
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge appropriate to the clinical area or practice development and education
  • Having or working toward a post-graduate certificate in teaching
  • Familiar with and able to effectively use common office software suites (e.g. MS Office)
  • Experience of coaching
  • Experience designing, delivering and evaluating programmes of education

Desirable
  • National publication or presentation of audit, service improvement or research
  • Evidence of study at level 7

  • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Has and continues to measurably contribute to the education of learners and non-registered and less experienced staff
