REPORTING TO: Director of Finance

It is a vital moment for the environment as we face the dual nature and climate crises and the world has become increasingly aware of the important role trees play in tackling climate change, protecting and improving biodiversity and contributing to our health and wellbeing.

The Tree Council (TTC) has experienced strong growth in recent years. To help deliver our ambitious plans and ensure robust financial management of existing and new programmes, we are now recruiting a part-time Finance & Grants Manager to join Team Tree Council.

The Manager will work within TTC’s small finance team (two people currently) on some day-to-day TTC accounting. In addition, they will play a key role working with the Community Planting, Education, and Fundraising Teams supporting the financial monitoring and processing of grant-making and grant-funded programmes. Financial systems and processes are already established but we always welcome improvement.

Key grant-making / grant-funded programmes include:

  • Defra-funded: Trees Outside Woodland planting programme
  • M&G plc-funded: Growing Together community tree nursery programme
  • GLA-funded: Young Tree Champions ‘London Living Labs’ programme
  • Network Rail-funded: Community Planting Programme

The Finance & Grants Manager is an important supporting role based at our nine-desk office, in a Grade 2 listed building at Canada Water in East London, with considerable flexibility for working from home. As the role is newly created, it is expected that the role will support finance and the grants programmes equally, with responsibilities focussed around the operational aspects of the grant giving programme.

We are looking for someone who is accountancy qualified, has charity finance and ideally Sage accounting experience. You will be used to being hands-on in a small team, with high standards, in a fast-paced environment. A warm and enthusiastic attitude and attention to detail are key. Above all, you should be keen to use your strong financial skills to support The Tree Council to operate securely, confidently and accurately, internally and externally.
