WELLBEING & ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR

Shift - SATURDAY and SUNDAY ONLY - 09:30 - 16:30, 14 hours per week, £12.71 per hour


Our home employs a Wellbeing and Activity Coordinator, who is responsible for getting to know each of our residents individually and provide them with a range of opportunities to engage with activities that are meaningful to them personally. The idea is to support residents to have the best quality of life possible and most of all to be happy living in our homes.


ABOUT THE ROLE


To be a Wellbeing & Activity Coordinator, you will need to be well organised, creative, and proactive.


Like many jobs, no day is the same; one day you could be throwing a themed event to celebrate summer and the next day you could be in adementia-friendly cinemawatching the Wizard of Oz or playing card games with the residents.


PLANNING YOUR WEEK


Your main role within a care setting is to provide activities that benefit thewellbeing of a residents, ensuring you focus on their emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical wellbeing.


Each Wellbeing & Activity Coordinator brings their own ideas to the role and will find their own unique strength. Some people are great at creating quizzes, conducting craft sessions and others excel at stimulating physical exercise through gardening or other outdoor activities. It is important to plan a diverse activity week, you weekly planned program should help you construct this.


USING YOUR LOCAL KNOWLEDGE


Behind the scenes, you are organising events and reaching out to the local community to ensure that residents dont lose touch with groups and friends that they enjoyed locally before coming to live in the care home. The phrase it's not what you know its who you know is fundamental to this job role and having a little notebook with you at times can often be beneficial.


Even if you do not know the local area well, you will begin to collect local contacts and resources such as schools, churches, and charities that make your job even more rewarding.


GO WITH THE FLOW!


There is never a dull day as a Wellbeing & Activity Coordinator. Planned activities dont always go the way you wanted, so you have to be proactive and think on your feet. Sometimes residents decide that they dont want to join in at the last minute, but it helps to ask people what they want to do instead.


Good communication skills are essential, and you need to be flexible and go with the flow some days. Other days you can be surprised when a successful one to one or group session brings tangible benefits for a resident.

Our Wellbeing & Activities Co-Ordinators are key to planning rewarding activities for our Residents. They design and implement all the activities; personalising them to ensure each resident is included. Fund-raising is also an important part of the role thinking outside of the box to create new ideas and networking with local businesses.


You will need to have keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, be a real team player, adaptable and have the ability to turn your hand at just about anything.


Most importantly, you will need to be extremely creative, flexible and love working with people!


THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF WELLBEING & ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR INCLUDE:



  • Identify the needs of residents through reading and contributing to individual life stories and care plans.


Document participation, experience, and document activity information in residents care plans.


Support activities, events, and outings, encouraging relatives and visitors to be involved.


Contribute to a balance of large group, small group and individual activities.


Assist with in-house amenities and the provision of services from organisations in the home.


Assist with building links with the local community (e.g., schools, spiritual groups, museums/libraries).


To be involved in supporting marketing & fundraising initiatives.


Develop and maintain positive relationships with all residents, family, visitors and colleagues.


Plan and develop a weekly activities program that is tailored to the individual needs of every resident.


Ensure that all residents are encouraged to take fluids and that a ready supply of refreshments are always available.


Contribute to residents Care & Support plans and identify individual likes, dislikes, and preferences.



ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIBILITIES OF A WELLBEING & ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR INCLUDE:



  • Plan, develop and produce the weekly / monthly activities and wellbeing program.


Ensure that weekly activities are displayed and correspond with the monthly program on the Residents Activities Board


Update and contribute to residents Life Story Books via the Care Management System (CMS)


Update residents Daily Care Notes (CMS) with participation and any other relevant information for the day.


Document Social Visits, Outing and daily Activities on the residents Daily Care Notes (CMS)


Arrange and hold monthly Resident Meetings with minutes of the meetings, any outstanding actions and feedback from individuals who took part in the meeting.


Record and report compliments, complaints and concerns on the appropriate systems and ensure that all outstanding actions have been followed up.



OTHER DUTIES


Kingsfield is a bustling working Residential Care Home and things may not always go to plan. It is vital that the Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator is flexible and adaptable to ensure that all our residents care and support needs are always met.


The Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator is often the first-person visitors meet at the front door and it vital that you ensure that all our visitors family, friends, employees and other professionals are made to feel welcome, offered refreshments and have a great first impression of the home, service and environment.


It is especially important that activities focus on the wellbeing of our residents and promote their independence however this must always be in a safe, clean and presentable environment.


At times, the Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator may have to assist residents with drinks, snacks and to access the toilet facilities.


HEALTH AND SAFETY


The Health & Safety of our residents is paramount. The Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator must ensure that the environment always meets and conforms to all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.


All activities whether on a one to one, small group or large groups basis should always adopt measures to minimise and reduce the risks of falls, trips or slips. This is particularly important during group activities and when managing side tables, walking sticks, frames, and other mobility aides.


Activities where hazardous items are uses for example paint, small pieces, sharp objects should always be supervised and the care and support needs of everyone taking part in the activity should be considered. Residents should not be left unattended unless it is safe to do so.


HOURS OF WORK


Although the normal working hours for a Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator are Monday to Friday, on occasion you may want to alter your hours to meet a particular event, activity, or resident outing. xwwtmva
