Job summary
We are pleased to be able to offer an opportunity for an experienced band 5 physiotherapist to join the Oncology and Neurosciences rotations until end of July 2027.Successful applicants will have completed a range of band 5 rotations and have developed a special interest in the Oncology and Neurosciences specialties. This post is an opportunity to enhance your clinical skills across these areas, each of which is led by experienced senior physiotherapists.You will develop a breadth of experience such as inpatient and outpatient care of children under the oncology services, developmental care of infants who are medically complex and rehabilitation of children with neurological injuries.Based in a multidisciplinary specialty team you will demonstrate the ability to proactively work alongside other professions to delivery child and family centered care.Hydrotherapy is a valuable treatment method used by the team and experience in this area would be of benefit.The role involves respiratory assessment and treatments of inpatients within these services and working out of hours as part of the physiotherapy on call and weekend/bank holiday service. As such the role requires you to be competent in the physiotherapy management of paediatric respiratory problems.

Main duties of the job
  • To competently carry out full consultations with patients in order to establish baseline data.
  • To undertake a comprehensive assessment of a paediatric case load (including pre-term infants, children and adolescents) including those with adverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies using diagnostic and analytical skills in order to identify their problems and needs and ensure that the patient's medical, psychological, social environment and cultural factors are taken into account.
  • Using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques - Identify the problems
  • Set appropriate treatment aims and objectives in negotiation with the patient.- Competently plan and carry out realistic programmes of treatment from a range of specialised therapeutic options for each patient using evidenced based practice
  • Relate findings to presenting pathology. - To be able to give appropriate advice to ensure patients understanding, co-operation, compliance and consent.

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

  • BSc. in relevant field or equivalent (evidenced by HCPC registration)

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Previous broad band 5 clinical experience in the NHS including MSK, orthopaedics, neurology alongside significant experience in the area relevant to the job role.
  • Evidence of relevant knowledge gained through post graduate learning.
  • Experience of respiratory on-call
  • Previous experience of working within paediatrics
  • Experience of supervision of students and assistants

Desirable
  • Previous experience in a specialist post
  • Experience of Hydrotherapy in Paediatrics

Clinical Skills / Abilities
Essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Able to work autonomously with ability to seek guidance appropriately with individuals or in a group setting
  • Able to participate in the emergency on-call and weekend rotas in line with departmental policy
