Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available within the Urology Department for a band 7 Bladder Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). We are seeking a highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with vision to enhance the bladder cancer pathway and the ability to pro-actively manage change.

The successful candidate will work within the Bladder Cancer Team following the patients journey from suspected cancer to diagnosis to treatment. As the patients keyworker they will act as a conduit between patients, carers, colleagues and primary care, working in close collaboration with the MDT team and other health care professionals within the wider care setting. The post holder will play an active part in supporting the quality of care delivered to Urology patients through clinical practice, nurse led clinics, education and audit.

The role may require working at any 3 of our hospital sites at NWAFT across 5 days Monday - Friday to ensure quality care is delivered to all patients.

The CNS team are dedicated to carrying out high standards of care and developing the skills and knowledge of all of its team members. Experience in bladder cancer is desirable but most importantly you should be willing to learn and be an active member of the nursing team.

Main duties of the job
The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.
  • Support compliance against the 28-day faster diagnosis standard and 62-daycancer waiting times (CWT) guidance for the Bladder suspected cancer pathway,
  • Provide comprehensive, consistent and clear information and support to those individuals referred on the pathway, including clear decisions regarding next actions.
  • Positively impact on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice and care.
  • Provide nursing clinical expertise to primary and secondary care colleagues regarding the pathway, including operational risks and compliance against the pathway milestones, and clinical updates regarding an individual referred on the pathway where appropriate.
  • To undertake nurse led clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics.
