Job Description As a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will manage a varied community caseload across Southampton, Hampshire, SO15, supporting children and young people aged approximately 2–25 with developmental, neurological, sensory, motor and self-regulation needs. Working across private healthcare and private education environments, you will deliver specialist allied health and paediatric occupational therapy assessments and interventions in schools, family homes and other community settings. The service provides bespoke, creative and flexible occupational therapy using neuro-affirming approaches. Each child or young person’s individual needs remain central to assessment, intervention planning and the development of practical strategies. Your work may support participation in play, education, self-care, daily living, social activities and the development of practical life skills. You will create clinically informed recommendations and measurable therapy goals that help children and young people participate more confidently in everyday life. The wider service also supports EHCP assessments, educational transitions, handwriting and motor skills, parent and school advice, and specialist school-based provision. This opportunity is suitable for a capable Band 6 Occupational Therapist or an experienced Band 5 Paediatric Occupational Therapist ready to progress into a role with increased autonomy, structured supervision and continued professional development. Key Responsibilities * Manage a community-based paediatric occupational therapy caseload across Southampton and the surrounding area. * Complete comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for children and young people with developmental, neurological and functional needs. * Plan and deliver individualised interventions supporting sensory processing, motor development, self-regulation and participation in daily activities. * Develop clear treatment recommendations, practical strategies and measurable therapy goals. * Support children and young people with SEND and EHCP-funded occupational therapy provision. * Assess and promote skills relating to play, learning, self-care, daily living, handwriting, coordination and independence. * Produce detailed, accurate and clinically robust assessment and progress reports. * Work collaboratively with children, families, carers, schools, local authorities and other health and education professionals. * Maintain accurate clinical records and work in accordance with HCPC and RCOT professional standards. * Manage your workload independently while seeking senior clinical support and joint-working opportunities when appropriate. Requirements * Sponsorship / right to work: Applicants must be able to demonstrate their legal right to work in the UK. * Qualification: A recognised Occupational Therapy qualification with current HCPC registration and RCOT membership. * Experience level: A minimum of experienced Band 5-level paediatric occupational therapy experience, with readiness for increased autonomy, or current experience at Band 6 level. * Specialism: Experience supporting neurodiverse children and young people, ideally across school, community or specialist settings. * Capability: Strong clinical assessment, intervention planning and detailed report‑writing skills, with knowledge of SEND and EHCP processes. * Soft skill: A child‑centred, collaborative and compassionate approach, with the creativity and flexibility to tailor support to each child or young person. * Independence: Ability to manage a community caseload independently, with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. * Also suitable for: Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Band 5 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Children’s Occupational Therapist, Community Paediatric Occupational Therapist, School-Based Occupational Therapist. Company Culture As a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will be part of a highly specialised and clinically collaborative team that places each child and young person’s needs at the heart of its practice. The service is built around bespoke, creative and flexible support, with neuro-affirming approaches used to create a safe and comfortable experience for children, young people and their families. You will work alongside experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapists, including clinicians with advanced Sensory Integration expertise, as well as experienced therapy assistants and technicians. The team brings together knowledge from community, educational, clinical and specialist paediatric settings. This creates opportunities to share ideas, undertake joint work and learn from colleagues with varied areas of expertise. Professional development is actively encouraged through regular supervision, monthly CPD, external courses, online learning and specialist training in Sensory Integration, trauma and attachment. The culture values thoughtful clinical practice, collaboration with families and schools, and practical occupational therapy interventions that help children and young people build confidence and participate more fully in everyday life.
