Job summary
The Named Midwife for Safeguarding will be responsible for safeguarding women ,unborn, babies and families.

Supporting all activities necessary to ensure the organisation meets its statutory responsibilities to safeguard and protect the unborn, babies and families

As part of the role you will be taking on the Lead role for Female Genital Mutilation Promoting good professional practice within the organisation, providing advice and expertise for fellow colleagues and ensuring safeguarding training is in place. Working closely with the Head/ Deputy Head of Safeguarding and other statutory safeguarding partners.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Named Midwife for Safeguarding to provide expert leadership, advice and oversight in relation to safeguarding across maternity services and the wider organisation.

The Named Midwife will work collaboratively with wider multidisciplinary teams, as well as partner agencies including social care, police, Integrated Care Boards , Local Safeguarding Partnerships and other healthcare providers. The role is responsible for promoting best practice, supporting compliance with national safeguarding legislation and guidance, delivering safeguarding training and supervision, and the development of policies, quality assurance processes and service improvement initiatives.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
  • At least 3 years' experience as a band 6 Midwife.
  • Continued professional development relevant to safeguarding specialist midwife role
  • Knowledge of current professional, local and national policy issues in relation to safeguarding in midwifery
  • Knowledge of key legislation, national reports and documentation.
  • Experience of managing and mitigating risks
  • Competent in use of IT packages such as Microsoft word, excel and PowerPoint

Desirable
  • Evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff groups
  • Evidence of significant involvement in change management
  • Masters or working towards masters in related subject
  • Experience of undertaking audit and evaluations
