Job description

We are looking for an experienced, relationship-led Philanthropy Manager to join the Fundraising Team at the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). Join us in developing our portfolio of major donors at a time when investment and commitment to strategically transforming our programme is high.

In this role, you’ll focus on high-value relationships of £10,000 and above, with opportunities to collaborate on organisation-wide projects. You’ll identify, cultivate and steward major donors and work with teams across the charity to create inspiring supporter relationships

This role also holds responsibility for curating meaningful events that steward our generous donors and encourage their support of BTO. You’ll lead on the planning and execution of inspiring, money-can’t-buy experiences that demonstrate the impact of our research and strengthen donor’s relationships with the charity.

We’re looking for someone who has a passion for wildlife, is able to clearly articulate the need and the benefits of supporting the work of the BTO, and who enjoys working with a team of like-minded people.

This position can be based at either one of our offices in Norfolk, Stirling, Bangor or Lisburn. Remote working will be considered. Please note that the advertised salary includes a 12% (£4,324) market force supplement, which has been applied to this role in recognition of current recruitment and retention market conditions. The supplement is subject to periodic review in line with the BTO’s Market Force Supplement Policy.

You can read the full role description by clicking on the role description under 'supporting documents' in the job details on our careers page. Please contact us if you are not sure if you meet all the criteria for the role and would like to discuss the role in more detail.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be required to provide documentary evidence of your right to live and work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer visa sponsorship at this time.

WHAT DOES BTO DO?

The heart of BTO encompasses three key areas: birds, science, people. Our priority is to make a positive impact for birds, using our strong and objective science in partnership with other organisations, members and volunteers. We strive to work sustainably and to welcome everyone.

Our values

We are evidence-led, inclusive, collaborative and empowering.

Birds Science People; it is a powerful combination – will you be part of it?
