In this role, you will lead Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) activities across major energy infrastructure projects, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, safety performance, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of project HSE strategies, ensuring health, safety, and environmental excellence is embedded throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Partner with customers during tender phases, interpreting HSE requirements and demonstrating Hitachi Energy's commitment to delivering industry-leading HSE performance.
  • Own the preparation and submission of high-quality HSE tender documentation and project plans, helping secure and successfully deliver major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Represent Hitachi Energy in customer meetings, workshops, and project reviews, acting as a trusted HSE subject matter expert.
  • Shape HSE requirements for subcontractors by developing clear scopes of work and driving alignment with project expectations.
  • Manage project HSE budgets and resource planning, ensuring the right people, training, and services are in place to support successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain key HSE management documentation, including Project HSE Plans and Emergency Preparedness & Response Plans, helping establish best-in-class project standards.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams during HAZID and design review activities to proactively identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Build and lead the project HSE framework, ensuring appropriate resources and expertise are available throughout all project phases.
  • Champion compliance with legal, contractual, and company HSE requirements while driving a positive and proactive safety culture across project teams.
  • Analyse project performance and provide strategic HSE insights through customer and internal reporting, supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Establish, monitor, and drive project HSE KPI performance, implementing improvement initiatives that deliver measurable results.
  • Work closely with subcontractors and delivery partners to strengthen HSE standards, ensuring a collaborative and consistent approach across the supply chain.
  • Lead project HSE reporting and incident management processes, ensuring effective communication, transparency, and lessons learned across the business.
  • Design and deliver engaging HSE training, induction, and awareness programmes that build capability and empower teams to work safely.
  • Provide expert guidance and coaching to project teams, influencing decision-making and supporting the successful resolution of complex HSE challenges.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective HSE coordination across engineering, construction, and project management functions.

Your Background

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Recognised HSE qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent), with Level 6 preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar HSE role within large-scale project environments.
  • Strong understanding of HSE management within engineering, construction, infrastructure, power, or utilities sectors.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001; Internal Auditor certification is advantageous.
  • Formal Incident Investigation training.
  • Experience producing and reviewing HSE technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
