Job description
The Opportunity

With every community, Stantec redefines what's possible.

Application Deadline: Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.

The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in our Warrington office, where you will support the design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across water and wastewater projects.

The successful candidate will join our Warrington office and work with colleagues across our wider Water and MEICA teams to support project delivery for water sector clients across the North West and nationally.

You will support water and wastewater schemes for local and national clients. The variety and complexity of projects will help you develop skills in workload management, communication and continued learning around water industry standards, regulations, innovative solutions and products.

Our project portfolio spans across the UK, with opportunities to support major water-sector frameworks and work with multidisciplinary colleagues across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, process and environmental disciplines.

Take a look at our Water business line here: Water (stantec.com), and review some of the projects you could be working on: Greater Manchester - Integrated Water Management Plan (stantec.com).

About The Role

As part of our Water and MEICA team, you will support mechanical engineering design and delivery across water and wastewater projects, developing your technical capability while learning from experienced engineers and subject matter experts. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Managing workload and time effectively while supporting project delivery.
  • Communicating with internal design teams to coordinate technical inputs and support integrated delivery.
  • Communicating with external parties, including clients, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the production of mechanical deliverables for water and wastewater projects.
  • Working with mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, process and environmental colleagues to develop integrated solutions.
  • Developing your technical understanding through project work, mentoring, training and structured graduate development.

We know our continuing success and development depends on yours, so we go all the way when it comes to giving you the support you need to be the very best. Each graduate will be allocated a chartered engineer to act as their mentor and support their professional development towards chartered status.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting mechanical engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure. Your work will contribute to reliable treatment processes, resilient water and wastewater services and sustainable engineering solutions for clients across Warrington, the North West and nationally.

About you:

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with your Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Design or other relevant degree, we'd love to receive your application if you are:-

  • An Adapter - You're able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
  • A Perseverer - You stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
  • A Collaborator - You work effectively with lots of different people, considering others' perspectives to shape better outcomes.
  • A Problem-Solver - You love to give your thoughts based on what you see, being unafraid to challenge conventional thinking.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that colleagues are able to provide the appropriate level of support.

Applicants must have an unconditional right to live and work in the UK for an indefinite period without limitation.

What we can offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
  • Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long-term career at Stantec
  • Professional progression plan, supporting you to become chartered with ICE.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment and Early Careers peer group and wider ERG network (see more on our ERGs here: Stantec Employee Resource Groups)

Please take a look at our Graduate FAQs (Graduate Application FAQs) if you have any questions. We look forward to receiving your application!
