About the Role:

Great British Energy is looking for a Grid Manager - Onshore Renewables to join our GBE Onshore Energy Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.

The Grid Manager is responsible for developing and executing grid connection strategies across a portfolio of onshore renewable energy projects. The role leads all aspects of grid connection activity from initial site screening through to energisation readiness, ensuring projects secure technically compliant, commercially viable and deliverable grid connections.

The postholder will manage relationships with the National Energy System Operator (NESO), Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission Owners (TOs), Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and specialist consultants. The role will provide expert advice to project teams on grid opportunities, risks, costs and programme implications. Grid connection capability is recognised as a critical success factor for renewable energy development.

Key Responsibilities

Grid Strategy & Portfolio Management

* Develop portfolio-wide grid connection strategy.

* Identify grid connection opportunities to support project origination activities.

* Assess network capacity constraints and connection opportunities.

* Maintain pipeline-wide connection register and connection risk assessments.

* Advise development teams on optimal project locations from a grid perspective.

* Support strategic decisions on connection technologies, network access and capacity allocation.

Connection Applications & Management

* Lead preparation and submission of grid connection applications.

* Manage connection offers through review, negotiation and acceptance.

* Coordinate responses to technical queries from network operators.

* Manage interactions with:

* NESO

* DNOs

* Transmission Owners

* Independent Connection Providers

* Monitor milestones associated with connection agreements and securities.

Technical Assessment

* Oversee electrical feasibility and network studies.

* Manage consultants undertaking:

* Power system studies

* Load flow analysis

* Fault level assessments

* Grid compliance studies

* Review technical designs relating to grid connections and substations.

* Support project design optimisation to improve connection viability.

* Ensure compliance with applicable Grid Code and G99 requirements.

Development Team Support

* Work closely with:

* Project Development Managers

* Development Engineering

* Land Managers

* Environmental teams

* Energy Yield Analysts

* Provide grid input into site selection and screening exercises.

* Support planning applications with electrical and connection information.

* Provide connection cost estimates and programme assumptions for business cases.

* Support investment committee submissions and governance approvals.

Commercial Management

* Manage grid-related development budgets.

* Review connection charging methodologies and associated costs.

* Support commercial negotiations associated with:

* Contestable works

* ICP appointments

* Connection contracts

* Assess opportunities for shared infrastructure and network optimisation.

* Support project valuation and financial modelling activities through provision of grid assumptions.

* Report on Grid Liability and Security Values.

Construction & Delivery Interface

* Support transition of projects from development into delivery.

* Coordinate grid-related activities with:

* Project Delivery Management teams

* Construction Management teams

* Electrical package suppliers

* ICP contractors

* DNO/TO delivery teams

* Manage energisation strategy and programme.

* Support commissioning and network compliance activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

Experience

* Significant experience managing grid connections for renewable energy projects.

* Proven experience working with UK DNO and transmission connection processes.

*

Experience supporting onshore wind, solar PV and/or BESS developments. * Experience reviewing and negotiating grid connection offers.

* Experience managing external electrical consultants.

* Strong understanding of project development and governance processes.

Knowledge

* UK electricity transmission and distribution systems.

* NESO connections process.

* Grid Code and G99 requirements.

* HV substations and electrical infrastructure.

* Power system analysis principles.

* Renewable project development lifecycle.

* Electrical safety and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or related discipline.

* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership preferred.

* Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) desirable. xwwtmva

* Relevant power systems or grid studies qualifications advantageous.
