Teaching Personnel are working with a supportive secondary school in Dorchester who are looking to appoint a practical and dependable Design & Technology Technician from September.

This part-time, long-term opportunity would suit someone with a practical background who enjoys working with tools, machinery and materials and is keen to support both staff and students within a busy D&T department. Previous experience within a school is beneficial but not essential, with candidates from engineering, manufacturing, construction or other workshop-based backgrounds encouraged to apply.

The Role

As a Design & Technology Technician, you will help ensure the department is well organised, fully equipped and ready to deliver practical lessons. Duties will include:

• Preparing tools, materials and equipment ahead of practical lessons.

• Supporting teachers and students during workshop-based activities.

• Ensuring machinery and equipment is maintained and safe to use.

• Carrying out basic maintenance and repairs where appropriate.

• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering materials.

• Maintaining clean, tidy and organised workshop areas.

• Ensuring appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.

• Providing general technical support to the Design & Technology department.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Practical experience using tools, machinery or workshop equipment.

• An understanding of health and safety within a practical environment.

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.

• A reliable, proactive and positive approach to their work.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff and students.

Experience working within a school or educational environment would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience from another industry will also be considered.
