Job description

Principal People are delighted to be partnering exclusively with a well-established Housing Association to recruit a Building Compliance Surveyor as part of the continued growth of its Building Compliance team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an organisation investing heavily in its homes and people.

You'll manage a diverse housing portfolio, working within a supportive, expanding compliance team where you'll play a key role in improving resident safety while helping shape the future of the Building Safety function.

With strong backing from senior leadership, genuine career progression, and hybrid working across Surrey and the surrounding areas (with no overnight stays), this role offers real variety and impact.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety & Building Compliance, you'll help ensure homes remain safe, compliant and well maintained by:

  • Leading building compliance activities, with a focus on fire safety, building safety and water safety, while supporting asbestos compliance.
  • Managing specialist compliance contractors and building strong relationships with residents and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) through inspections, risk assessment reviews and technical guidance.
  • Driving continuous improvement across the Building Safety function and ensuring compliance with current legislation.

About You

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience in building compliance within social housing, local government or a similar property environment.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, with water hygiene and asbestos experience desirable.
  • A good understanding of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety legislation and Higher-Risk Buildings.
  • Experience managing contractors and delivering compliance programmes.
  • A relevant surveying, construction or building maintenance qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • A full UK driving licence.

Why Apply?

  • Join a growing organisation with genuine opportunities to develop your career.
  • Be part of a collaborative, supportive team where your work directly improves resident safety.
  • Enjoy hybrid and flexible working with travel across Surrey and surrounding areas.
  • Receive an excellent benefits package including:
  • Annual salary reviews, up to 10% employer pension contribution, life insurance and 27 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Hybrid working, holiday buy/sell scheme and the option to work abroad for up to one month (role dependent).
  • Cycle to Work, retail, gym and cinema discounts, plus role-specific benefits.
  • Health cash plan, virtual GP, Employee Assistance Programme, enhanced sick pay and wellbeing support.
  • Enhanced family leave, professional development, paid memberships and qualification sponsorship.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference while developing your career within a forward-thinking housing organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
