Job Description
Our client is an independent, FCA-regulated employee benefits broker providing whole-of-market advice across Private Medical Insurance (PMI), Group Protection (Group Life, Income Protection, Critical Illness) and Health & Wellbeing benefits to corporate clients. They are not an insurer, an HR consultancy, or an in-house benefits function — they are intermediaries who advise employers on the open market and are remunerated accordingly.
All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.
The Role
We're looking for a broking professional who currently manages a live portfolio of corporate clients and advises them directly on PMI, Group Protection and Health & Wellbeing arrangements — renewals, market reviews, insurer negotiations, and new business. This is a client-facing advisory role, not an internal benefits administration, reward, or HR business partnering position.
You will:
- Own and grow a portfolio of corporate clients, running renewals, market reviews and insurer negotiations across PMI, Group Risk and Health & Wellbeing products
Provide independent, whole-of-market advice — sourcing and comparing terms across the insurer panel, not a single provider
Identify and convert new business opportunities within your existing network and client base
Produce compliant recommendation reports and advice documentation in line with FCA requirements
Work alongside internal specialists and account handlers to deliver a joined-up client service
Essential — you must currently have:
- Live experience as a broker/consultant/adviser at an FCA-regulated intermediary, insurance broker, or IFA firm — not an insurer, reward consultancy, or in-house benefits/HR function
A current or recent portfolio of corporate clients that you have personally advised on PMI and/or Group Protection
Working technical knowledge of the UK Group Risk and PMI insurer market (products, underwriting, and renewal processes)
A track record of new business development and client retention you can speak to with real figures
Strongly preferred:
- CII qualifications (IF7, GR1, or progress toward the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning) — we weigh live book-management experience at least as heavily as paper qualifications, so don't rule yourself out if you're part-qualified but have the client experience
Based in or able to work regularly from the South West
Please note, this role is not a fit for: HR Business Partners, Reward & Compensation Consultants, in-house Benefits Administrators, Pensions Administrators, or candidates whose "Employee Benefits" experience is on the employer side rather than the broking/advisory side. Please don't apply if this describes your background — it won't be the right role for either of us.
Why Join?
- Genuine independent, whole-of-market advice — no tied panel, no proprietary product to push
A specialist team that values technical depth over generalist HR breadth
Ongoing professional development and support toward CII qualifications
Competitive salary, bonus, and long-term incentive plan, plus flexible working
