Short Description
Oakridge International School, Bangalore is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and student-centred educational leader for the role of Head of Secondary Department (HOD - Secondary). The HOD will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Secondary School, ensuring high standards in academic excellence, student wellbeing, staff development, and school culture.The role requires a passionate educator and collaborative leader who can effectively support curriculum implementation, strengthen teaching and learning practices, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and foster a positive and inclusive learning environment aligned with the vision and values of Oakridge International School.
Job Description
Academic Leadership
  • Lead and oversee the academic delivery and day-to-day operations of the Secondary School.
  • Ensure effective implementation of curriculum frameworks, assessment practices, and academic policies.
  • Monitor teaching quality and learner outcomes through classroom observations, data analysis, and academic reviews.
  • Support teachers in developing innovative, student-centred teaching strategies and differentiated learning practices.
  • Drive academic excellence by promoting high expectations and continuous improvement across all secondary grades.
  • Collaborate with teachers and coordinators to ensure curriculum alignment and consistency in instructional practices.
  • Support the integration of technology and digital learning tools into classroom instruction.
  • Ensure instructional resources and learning materials are effectively utilized to support teaching and learning.

Student Development & Wellbeing
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Support student wellbeing, discipline, and pastoral care initiatives.
  • Work closely with counsellors, coordinators, and teachers to address student behavioural, emotional, and academic concerns.
  • Ensure implementation of school policies related to safeguarding, student conduct, and attendance.
  • Encourage student leadership, participation, and holistic development through academic and co-curricular opportunities.

Staff Management & Professional Development
  • Mentor, guide, and support teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness and professional growth.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify development opportunities.
  • Facilitate professional learning sessions, workshops, and collaborative planning opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning among faculty members.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes for secondary school staff.

Parent & Community Engagement
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians.
  • Address parent concerns professionally and collaboratively.
  • Lead parent meetings, orientations, and academic information sessions as required.
  • Act as a key point of communication between the Secondary School and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the school professionally in internal and external engagements.

Operational & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Support the Principal and school leadership team in implementing school-wide initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, academic procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Coordinate academic calendars, timetables, assessments, and school events related to the Secondary School.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, resource allocation, and operational requirements.
  • Prepare reports, academic reviews, and documentation as required by school leadership.
  • Support admissions activities, student transitions, and orientation programmes where required.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Master's Degree in Education or relevant subject specialization.
  • B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or coordination role within a Secondary School.
  • Experience in international curriculum environments will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum planning, instructional leadership, and academic administration.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and school management systems.
