About the Team

The HM Treasury People and Capability team delivers a wide range of services and people solutions for the department. The team has People professionals and also colleagues with a background in Treasury policy work to provide a diverse skills mix. We work closely with senior stakeholders to make sure that our work supports and adds new value, and the department has a genuinely collaborative culture.

We are a friendly, multi-skilled team with varied strengths. This is a high priority, exciting and fast paced area of work, with ample opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, help embed cultural change in the department, and work closely with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, across the department.

About the Job

The People and Capability Data Analyst will support the Senior Analytics Engineer and wider People Analytics team to deliver reliable, timely and accessible workforce reporting for HM Treasury. The role will maintain, assure and improve workforce reporting products, including self-service dashboards, regular data returns and ad hoc analysis, ensuring colleagues and senior leaders have clear information to understand workforce trends, monitor performance and make informed decisions. You will work with HR colleagues, analysts and stakeholders across Corporate Centre Group to respond to regular reporting requirements, collate central commissions, including Cabinet Office commissions, and provide ad hoc analysis on people-related questions. The role will involve working with sensitive HR data, so attention to detail, sound judgement and a strong understanding of data protection, confidentiality and appropriate handling of information will be important.

The key responsibilities of the post-holder will be:

  • Maintain and update workforce reporting products, including dashboards and regular reports, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, clearly presented and aligned to agreed reporting cycles.
  • Deliver regular data returns, central commissions and departmental reporting requirements by collating, checking and analysing workforce data, escalating risks or data quality issues where appropriate.
  • Respond to ad hoc analysis requests from P&C colleagues and other stakeholders, using appropriate analytical methods to provide clear findings, caveats and practical insight.
  • Clean, validate and reconcile HR datasets, helping to improve the reliability of source data and the consistency of reporting across products.
  • Assist with the development and improvement of analytical and reporting products, including dashboards, automated reports and data transformation processes, using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Power Query.
  • Document definitions, assumptions, caveats and process steps so that reporting products are easier to maintain, understand and use appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across People and Capability, Finance, analytical communities and wider corporate teams to gather requirements, resolve issues and improve the quality of management information.
  • Work on continuous improvements to data access, reporting processes and self-service products, helping users understand how to interpret dashboards and use workforce data responsibly.
  • Contribute to a positive analytical culture by sharing learning, seeking feedback and developing your own data, visualisation and communication skills.

About You

We want you to be able to demonstrate your experience in data analysis, visualisation and presentation – using analytical skills to clean, check and analyse people data, producing clear reports and visualisations for technical and non technical audiences. We want you to have the ability to take responsibility for delivering timely and quality results with focus and drive across a range of competing priorities, under pressure and balancing short-term and long-term goals. As well as being able to form effective partnerships and relationships with people both internally and externally, from a range of diverse backgrounds, sharing information, resources and support. We also want you to seek out opportunities to create effective change and suggest innovative ideas for improvement and review ways of working, including seeking and providing feedback.

Some of the Benefits our people love!

  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King’s birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
  • Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
  • Generous parental and adoption leave packages
  • Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28%
  • Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances
  • A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity
