Job Description

Who we are

Ready to apply Before you do, make sure to read all the details pertaining to this job in the description below.

Voyage is a Maison for Mind Computing — the first deep tech couture house, engineering non-invasive neural interfaces as objects of desire. With a founding team from Apple, MIT Media Lab, Harvard, the Royal College of Art and more, we blend frontier science with cultural gravity to create technology that is equally functional, aesthetically refined, and highly adoptable. All team members are known as 'Technical Philosophers' and collaborate at the intersection of hardware, AI/ML, neuro, design, and philosophy of mind. Applicants can expect a creative, experimental environment focused on pushing the boundaries of human–machine interaction.

We're founding our atelier in London — the physical design arm of Voyage — and this is its first hire. Working with the founder and our SF-based R&D team, you will be the person who decides what our objects look like, feel like, and how they hold the head and ear, before a single one of them carries any technology at all.

This isn't jewellery design as decoration, and it isn't product design engineering. Call it 'aesthetics engineering' or 'adornment physics': a practice that doesn't yet properly exist, where form language is derived from body mechanics rather than applied on top of it. Nobody has seriously asked what an object worn at the ear could be if you designed it the way you'd design a mechanism — starting from contact pressure, weight distribution, how something behaves against skin and cartilage over a decade of wear — and let the aesthetic emerge from getting that right. That's the discipline we're building, and you'd be defining it.

What we need

  • Trained in fine or fashion jewellery, fabrication, head wearables, or a closely adjacent craft discipline, with specific hands-on experience designing objects worn at the head or ear — ear cuffs, headwear, eyewear, etc — not just generic jewellery

A genuine physics intuition for how objects behave against the head and ear specifically: weight distribution, pressure points, how contact geometry holds up as the head turns and moves over hours and years of wear

A deeply original aesthetic sense. We are defining the design language for a completely new class of technology couture, and want someone who can help shape this next category. You should have a world class understanding of form, contours, lines, and the geometries that could become historical classics

Enough engineering fluency to reason rigorously about material behaviour and structural integrity — this is not a role for someone who only sketches and hands off

CAD and hands-on prototyping fluency (Rhino, Matrix, SolidWorks; casting, 3D printing, hand fabrication) — you'll live in physical iteration, not renderings. You must imagine yourself in a real atelier with materials and forms and objects all around you, exploring form in the most physical and intimate way; not just through pixels. You must live and breathe physicality

A portfolio that shows original form language for head- or ear-worn objects specifically — we want to see what you think these objects could be, not what you know them to currently be

Who we're looking for

Not a conventional jewellery designer looking for a normal design job, and not a product designer looking for a jewellery brief. Someone who has designed specifically around the ear and head before — who already has the intuition for how an object survives contact with that particular part of the body — and who has been quietly frustrated that this kind of design has stayed decorative rather than being treated as a real physics problem. You think about contours the way an engineer thinks about tolerances — as something with consequence, not only aesthetic license. This role is built for that person specifically. This is a founding role at Voyage, and we are looking for people with a proven track record.

On Voyage

Jewellery engineering solves the physical and ergonomic problems of our new form factors: proportion, contact, how a piece sits and moves with the head and ear over real wear, before any sensor enters the design. You will lead that work entirely, from concept through fabricated reality, founding the design language the rest of the collection inherits. xwwtmva As objects mature, this expands into shaping the technology integration too, working closely with our product design team, whose focus is the DFM/DFA and enclosure-engineering side of manufacturability — while you continue to own the form, the physics of contact, and the aesthetic thesis that holds the whole thing together.
