Job description

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA looking for your next rewarding opportunity?

Do you have a passion for supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Protocol Education are working in partnership with a specialist school in Woodbridge, Suffolk to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a full-time temp-to-perm position starting as soon as possible.

About the Role

This specialist setting supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, Autism (ASD), ADHD, communication difficulties and other SEND. The school provides a therapeutic, nurturing environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential.

As a HLTA, no two days will be the same. You'll play an important role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping to create a positive learning environment and encouraging students to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across the school
  • Delivering 1:1 interventions and working with small groups
  • Leading learning activities under the direction of the class teacher
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional resilience
  • Supporting educational visits, enrichment activities and practical learning experiences
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working within education, SEND, care or a similar setting
  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, Autism or additional needs
  • Is calm, patient, resilient and able to build strong relationships
  • Can adapt to the needs of individual pupils and respond positively to challenges
  • Holds a HLTA qualification or has relevant classroom experience (desirable but not essential)

What Protocol Education can offer:

  • Competitive daily pay, paid weekly
  • A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement
  • Access to CPD and online training, including safeguarding and SEND courses
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent positions
  • The chance to make a genuine difference within a supportive specialist school

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within specialist education, with the potential to secure a permanent role following a successful temporary placement.

All applicants will be subject to Protocol Education's safeguarding and vetting procedures, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
