Job description
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, HCPC-registered Diagnostic Radiographer to join our Radiology team as a Band 6 Senior Radiographer in CT and General X-ray.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality, safe and effective CT and General X-ray imaging services as part of a rotational role within the Radiology Directorate. This post is suited to a confident radiographer with strong clinical skills, a commitment to patient-centred care, and the ability to support operational flow, safe decision-making and team development during shifts.

You will work as a senior clinical practitioner, applying advanced clinical skills and providing professional leadership during shifts. You will also contribute to governance, education, audit, quality improvement and service development, while supporting junior staff, students and trainees.

This is not a training post and candidates must have relevant CT and Xray experience.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be professional, reliable and well-organised, with a supportive and approachable leadership style. They will be able to prioritise effectively, remain calm under pressure, and demonstrate a clear commitment to service improvement and patient-centred care.

The post holder will undertake CT and General X-ray examinations, including theatre imaging and complex or urgent cases, while maintaining high diagnostic standards. They will interpret referral information and clinical requirements, select appropriate techniques and positioning, and adapt their approach according to patient condition, mobility and clinical complexity.

You will act as an IR(ME)R Operator, ensuring exposures are justified, optimised and documented in line with regulations, local policies and radiation protection requirements. The role also includes administering IV contrast in accordance with Trust protocols and training, including maintaining an annual cannulation audit.

As the senior radiographer on shift, you will support the team with safe clinical decision-making, prioritisation, patient flow and escalation of operational, staffing, capacity or safety concerns. You will provide clinical supervision, guidance and role modelling for Band 5 Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, students and support staff.

The role includes rota-based working, including nights, weekends, evenings, out-of-hours and on-call shifts as required.
