Job Description
Teaching & Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Visual Arts lessons aligned with IB curriculum frameworks and school expectations.
  • Develop inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences that encourage creativity, exploration, experimentation, and critical thinking.
  • Teach students a range of artistic techniques, processes, media, and visual communication skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students.
  • Encourage students to develop their own artistic style, ideas, and creative voice.
  • Integrate art history, contemporary art, cultural perspectives, and contextual understanding into lessons.
  • Promote interdisciplinary learning and meaningful connections between Visual Arts and other subject areas.
  • Incorporate appropriate digital tools and technology into Visual Arts learning where relevant.


Assessment & Student Progress

  • Design and implement formative and summative assessments aligned with IB assessment criteria.
  • Monitor, document, and evaluate student progress and achievement.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and development-focused feedback.
  • Support students in developing portfolios and documenting their artistic processes and reflections.
  • Guide students in setting artistic goals and reflecting on their learning and creative development.
  • Maintain accurate assessment and student records.


Classroom & Studio Management

  • Maintain a safe, organised, inclusive, and inspiring art studio environment.
  • Ensure appropriate use, storage, and maintenance of art materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Establish and reinforce appropriate health and safety procedures for studio-based activities.
  • Manage classroom resources and ensure materials are available for planned lessons.
  • Promote responsible and sustainable use of art materials.


Collaboration & School Community

  • Collaborate with colleagues, Heads of Department, coordinators, and school leadership to support student learning.
  • Participate actively in department planning, curriculum development, and school initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, achievement, and areas for development.
  • Contribute to exhibitions, art showcases, school events, and other co-curricular activities.
  • Participate in professional development and continuously enhance teaching practice.
  • Support the school's values, policies, safeguarding procedures, and commitment to student wellbeing.


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of secondary teaching experience.
  • IB MYP/DP experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques and contemporary art.
  • Good classroom management and communication skills.
  • Creative, organised, collaborative, and student-focused.
  • Ability to use digital tools and innovative teaching methods.
