Sustainable Construction Trainer/Technical Specialist (Retrofit, Building Fabric & Construction Trades)

Salary: £40,000–£50,000, depending on experience

Location: Central Scotland base with regular travel across the UK for workplace assessment and delivery

Contract Opportunities: We're recruiting for both:

  • Permanent Full-Time Trainers
  • Associate Trainers (self-employed, flexible delivery)

Whether you're looking for your next full-time opportunity or would like to combine training with your own construction business, we'd love to hear from you.

Help Shape the Future of Construction Skills

At The Verdancy Group, through our Apex Training Centres, we're helping shape the future of sustainable construction and retrofit skills. Working alongside employers, colleges, local authorities, manufacturers and nationally funded programmes, we deliver practical training, workplace assessment and nationally recognised qualifications that help develop the skilled workforce needed for a low-carbon future. Our Apex Training Centres bring together learners, employers and industry professionals in industry-standard learning environments to develop the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in modern construction.

As demand for high-quality green skills training continues to grow across the UK, we're continuing to invest in our people and expand our team. We're looking for experienced construction professionals who want to help inspire the next generation of skilled tradespeople and play a key role in our continued growth.

Whether your background is in retrofit, building fabric, insulation, joinery, plastering, brickwork or wider construction, you'll use your expertise to help develop the workforce that will deliver the UK's transition to low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings. We're not just delivering qualifications, we're creating new opportunities to develop the workforce our industry needs. As our portfolio continues to grow, you'll have the opportunity to influence new qualifications, curriculum, funded programmes and learning experiences that respond to the changing needs of industry.

This is more than a training role. It's an opportunity to help build the future of green skills. You'll be encouraged to bring your ideas, share your expertise and help shape the direction of our programmes as we continue to grow.

No two weeks look the same. One day you could be delivering practical training in one of our Apex Training Centres. The next, you might be assessing learners in the workplace, developing new qualifications, supporting nationally funded programmes or collaborating with employers, colleges and industry partners to develop innovative learning programmes and raise standards across the construction industry.

You'll deliver and assess regulated and employer-led qualifications, mentor learners both on and off site, and support the development of the UK's future workforce across retrofit, sustainable construction and traditional trades adapted for a low-carbon future.

Whether you've spent your career on site or already have experience in training and assessment, if you're passionate about sharing your knowledge and helping others succeed, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver safe, engaging and high-quality training and assessment across sustainable construction, retrofit and trade qualifications.
  • Deliver and assess regulated qualifications including SVQs, NVQs, SCQF Awards and employer-led programmes.
  • Carry out workplace assessment, site visits and on-site verification.
  • Develop and update learning resources.
  • Support learners from entry level through to Experienced Worker routes.
  • Promote retrofit best practice, health and safety and PAS 2035 principles.
  • Contribute to curriculum and programme development.
  • Maintain quality assurance processes.
  • Represent The Verdancy Group and Apex Training with employers and partners.

What you'll bring

Essential

  • Significant occupational experience in one or more of: Building Fabric Retrofit, Internal or External Wall Insulation (IWI/EWI), Dry Lining, Plastering, Rendering, Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Property Maintenance or Construction Site Supervision.
  • Strong understanding of retrofit, fabric-first principles and energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of PAS 2035.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills.
  • Experience working with employers and construction stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Assessor (A1, TAQA, L&D9DI) and/or IQA qualification.
  • Experience delivering SVQs, NVQs or workplace assessment.
  • Curriculum design or resource development.
  • Knowledge of nature-based materials, PAS 2030 or government-funded retrofit programmes.

Don't have teaching qualifications?

That's not a problem. We welcome applications from experienced construction professionals who are new to training. If you have the right technical expertise and enthusiasm to develop others, we'll support you to gain the qualifications needed to become an outstanding trainer and assessor.

Why Join Us?

  • Join a growing team at the forefront of sustainable construction and retrofit skills development.
  • Work from industry-standard training facilities at our Apex Training Centres while maintaining strong links with employers and live construction projects.
  • Help influence new qualifications, curriculum and industry programmes.
  • Work alongside employers, colleges, manufacturers and local authorities.
  • Deliver training that genuinely changes careers.
  • Access ongoing CPD and career development.
  • Choose a permanent or associate role that suits your career.

We're proud of the culture we're building. Our team is supportive, approachable and passionate about what we do. We believe great ideas can come from anyone, and we're looking for people who want to share their experience, continue learning and help us shape the future of construction skills together.

What your first year could look like

  • During your first year, you could expect to:
  • Deliver practical training and workplace assessment that helps learners build successful careers.
  • Support experienced tradespeople to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Build relationships with employers, colleges and industry partners across the UK.
  • Contribute to new qualifications, curriculum and learning resources.
  • Support nationally funded programmes helping tackle the UK's green skills shortage.
  • Continue developing your own professional expertise through CPD, technical training and teaching qualifications where required.
  • Become a valued member of a supportive, ambitious team that's driving innovation in sustainable construction and retrofit.

Ready to make your expertise count?

Many of our trainers have built successful careers on site before moving into education. They now enjoy passing on their knowledge, helping others develop the skills, confidence and professionalism needed to succeed in today's construction industry, while staying connected to employers, industry partners and the latest developments across the sector. xwwtmva

Whether you're looking for a permanent role or the flexibility of an associate opportunity, you'll find a place where your expertise is valued, your ideas are welcomed and your contribution genuinely makes a difference.

If you're passionate about your trade and want to use your experience to inspire others, raise standards and leave a lasting impact on the construction industry, we'd love to hear from you.
