Job description
Press Officer London Fire Brigade is seeking an experienced and proactive Press Officer to join its busy Communications Team during a particularly high-profile period of operational activity. With increasing public interest surrounding issues such as wildfires, water shortages and major incidents across London, this role offers the opportunity to play a key part in delivering timely, accurate and impactful communications on behalf of one of the UKs most respected emergency services. Contract Length: 3-months contract (view to extend if all goes well) Location: Hybrid work, 2 days in the office at Southwark, Pay rate: £26.47 per hour via PAYE or £34.37 per hour via Umbrella About the Role As Press Officer, you will act as a key media contact for London Fire Brigade, managing a diverse range of reactive and proactive communications activities. You will work closely with operational colleagues, senior leadership and external partner organisations to ensure the Brigades messaging is communicated effectively to the media and wider public. The role is fast-paced and varied, requiring someone who is confident handling media enquiries, building strong journalist relationships and managing communications during high-profile incidents. Responsibilities will include: * Responding to daily media enquiries from local, regional and national media outlets. * Drafting media statements, briefing notes and quotes on behalf of London Fire Brigade representatives. * Facilitating and coordinating media interviews. * Working closely with the Commissioners Office, Station Commanders and Borough Commanders to develop and deliver key messages. * Supporting and developing public safety campaigns, including current communications surrounding wildfire prevention and water safety advice. * Collaborating on social media content and wider digital communications activity. * Building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media stakeholders. * Liaising with partner organisations, including other emergency services and public sector bodies, to coordinate communications and media responses. * Attending operational incidents when required to manage media activity on-site and facilitate interviews. * Identifying and developing proactive media opportunities to promote the work and achievements of London Fire Brigade.
