About the Opportunity

A leading London Market insurer is seeking a Senior Financial Crime Analyst to join its Compliance team in London.

This is a key role within the Financial Crime function, responsible for supporting the management of financial crime risks across the business, including sanctions, export controls, anti-money laundering (AML), fraud, bribery, and corruption. Working closely with Financial Crime specialists and senior stakeholders, you will provide practical advice, conduct due diligence assessments, support regulatory compliance activities, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the organisation's financial crime framework.

This opportunity is ideal for a compliance professional with strong financial crime expertise who enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly regulated insurance environment.

The Team

The Compliance team plays a critical role in supporting the business's regulatory obligations while enabling commercial success. Working closely with underwriting, operations, legal, risk, and senior leadership teams, the function provides oversight, guidance, and challenge across key regulatory and compliance matters.

The Financial Crime team is responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains effective systems and controls to identify, assess, manage, and mitigate financial crime risks across its global insurance operations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Crime Advisory & Risk Management

  • Support Financial Crime Specialists and the wider Compliance function in providing timely, practical, and commercially focused advice to the business.

Conduct sanctions screening and detailed reviews of sanctions and export control implications relating to insurance transactions and coverages.

Perform robust financial crime due diligence for new business opportunities and renewals.

Assess potential financial crime risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

Support the review and enhancement of financial crime frameworks, controls, and governance arrangements.

Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and information gathering exercises.

Policy, Controls & Compliance

  • Support the review and maintenance of Financial Crime Policies and Procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory and legislative developments.

Contribute to the ongoing effectiveness of financial crime systems and controls.

Help ensure compliance with applicable sanctions, AML, anti-bribery, fraud, and export control requirements.

Escalate potential control weaknesses, breaches, or areas of concern in a timely manner.

Monitoring, MI & Reporting

  • Participate in day-to-day financial crime monitoring activities.

Support assurance activities designed to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Contribute to the production of management information, dashboards, and reporting for governance committees and boards.

Analyse trends and emerging risks to support informed decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement & Training

  • Act as a trusted point of contact for financial crime-related queries from business stakeholders.

Build strong working relationships across underwriting, operations, legal, risk, and senior management teams.

Support the development and delivery of financial crime training programmes.

Identify opportunities to improve stakeholder awareness and understanding of financial crime risks and obligations.

Contribute to horizon scanning activities, monitoring regulatory and legislative developments.

Assist in communicating emerging sanctions and export control developments across the business.

Change & Transformation

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement.

Support strategic projects aimed at enhancing financial crime processes, controls, and technology solutions.

Work collaboratively with Compliance, Risk, and Change teams to implement process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Keep abreast of evolving regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the business.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong understanding of sanctions regulations at Advisory level (not only screening)

Knowledge of financial crime risk management frameworks and associated controls.

Experience conducting due diligence and risk assessments.

Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a proven ability to support decision-making.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex topics clearly to a range of audiences.

Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.

Ability to balance regulatory requirements with commercial considerations.

Highly organised, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.

Desirable

  • Experience within the London Market or Lloyd's insurance environment.

Experience applying financial crime regulations within the insurance sector

Exposure to international sanctions and cross-border insurance transactions.

Experience contributing to regulatory reporting, governance committees, or board reporting.

Previous involvement in compliance transformation, systems implementation, or process improvement initiatives.

Relevant compliance or financial crime qualifications.
