Proposed interview date week commencing 24th August 2026 Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work within the Bromley 0 to 19 public health nursing service to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to children as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/ Locality Lead Nurses, whilst working closely with all members of the skill mixed team. The successful candidate will deliver universal and targeted interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of the 0-4 population and their families. These programmes will be delivered in line with the National and Local guidelines and public health priorities. Working proactively and using a partnership approach to promote health and wellbeing, and contributing to tackling health inequalities. The post holder will work with children, young people and families within a variety of community settings such as Childrens Centres, Early Years settings, Health Centres, or within the home environment, across the London borough of Bromley. Detailed job description and main responsibilities * To support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme for children 0 to 19 and their families as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse. * To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and to adhere to the Bromley Healthcare Safeguarding Children Policy and Local Safeguarding Children Board Policies and Procedures. * To carry out developmental checks as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse * To work with targeted families providing advice and support in response to identified health, social or special needs in the home and other venues as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse. * To support complex and vulnerable families as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse. * To be responsible for own work ensuring effective liaison and regular updates with the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse who delegated the piece of work. * To participate in child health clinics and clinic appointments in conjunction with the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse. * To promote breastfeeding as per Bromley Healthcare Policies working to and maintain Baby Friendly accreditation * To offer advice to parents and carers on the development, health and behaviour of their child, discussing any concerns with the Health Visitor/Skill mix team and to refer to other services as directed and appropriate in line with policy. * To deliver home visits to support parenting, development, health and behaviour of their child as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor * Facilitate health promotion sessions and deliver activities in a variety of settings on local public health priorities * To be sensitive to the cultural, physical emotional, intellectual and social needs of children and families and to promote positive family life in the local community. * To encourage parents/carers to participate in all aspects of play and development with their children. To advise parents/carers on suitable play activities and age appropriate toys. * To plan and implement packages of care as delegated by and under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse to include attuned and positive parenting, sleep, behavioural concerns, potty/toilet training, weaning and feeding problems and speech and language and play materials. * To promote home safety, accident prevention and safe play and other health promotion. * To contribute to the assessment of vulnerable families when implementing packages of care under the supervision of the Health Visitor/Locality Lead Nurse * To deliver services effectively within the resources available. * To be responsible at all times for accurate and contemporaneous record keeping in line with local and national guidelines and policy. * To ensure effective liaison by supporting the development of robust and effective communication systems both within the Bromley 0 to 19 team, with children and their families, other health professionals as appropriate, children and families centres, and Early Years Settings as part of a co-ordinated approach within the locality. * To develop relationships which facilitate effective liaison and communication with statutory, voluntary and independent organisations. * To participate in regular Supervision. * To take part in audit activity as requested * To participate in an annual appraisal of their work where objectives will be set. * The post holder will be expected to undertake any training or development as identified at appraisal. * To undertake such training as may be required to meet the needs of the service both mandatory and service specific. * To assume responsibility for maintaining own level of professional development and clinical competence. * All staff are responsible for identifying areas within their service, which do not meet Clinical Governance quality standards. * All staff are expected to participate in Clinical Governance actions to achieve Clinical Governance within their service. * All clinicians are expected to participate in quality improvement activities including clinical audit programmes. * All staff are responsible for ensuring their practice is evidence-based Person specification Qualifications * BTEC / NVQ level 3 in Early Years / Education / Health and Social Care Or Equivalent * Evidence of Continuing Professional Development Knowledge * Knowledge of normal child development and factors which can impact this * Knowledge/awareness of safeguarding issues * Knowledge of the Public Health role in contemporary health visiting * Knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme * Current knowledge and understanding of community nursing including current DOH directives. * Experience of delivering health promotion interventions * Experience of completing growth measurements and knowledge of how to interpret results * Experience of providing infant feeding support to parents Experience * Current / previous experience of community working * Experience of facilitating groups/clinics/sessions. * Experience of working with families and/or in a childcare setting * Experience of working with other agencies * Experience of working in a Health Visiting team Skills * Computer literate / IT skills/ Ability to maintain accurate and clear records * Current UK Driving Licence and with use of car for work purposes * Ability to build appropriate relationships with clients and their families * Effective interpersonal skills * Ability to work autonomously and as part of a larger team * Experience of using EMIS Employer certification / accreditation badges This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
