Job description

Director of Assets, Environment & Economy

Up to £109,000 (plus a market supplement for exceptional and experienced candidates)

We’re Nottinghamshire County Council, and we’re a community – inside and out. As we proudly serve a population of over 800,000 people across our county, we support each other, empower each other and respect each other. Our mission is to improve lives across Nottinghamshire. And we do that by providing top-quality, vital services for our residents, working closely together, and with people in the wider community, to do it. It means that when you join us, you’ll feel part of something bigger than yourself. And you’ll feel the impact of your work every day, because it’ll happen right on your doorstep.

We’re looking for an exceptional leader to join us as Director of Assets, Environment & Economy at a pivotal moment. This is a rare opportunity to take onboard, high-impact portfolio spanning property and assets, planning and green space, and economic growth - all central to how we shape thriving, sustainable communities.

We are an organisation that moves at pace. With a £150m annual capital programme and a strong track record of delivering major infrastructure and asset projects, we’ve built a reputation for being commercially astute, delivery-focused, and ambitious for our places. But what truly sets us apart is our purpose: everything we do is rooted in creating stronger communities and better lives for our residents.

This role sits right at the heart of our ambitions. You’ll lead a diverse and high-performing set of services, working across complex partnerships and engaging confidently with senior stakeholders, including elected members and public and private sector partners. You’ll be as comfortable shaping long-term vision as you are driving delivery, ensuring projects land on time and on budget while contributing to a bigger story about place, growth and social value. Looking ahead, local government reorganisation will create new opportunities to rethink how infrastructure, assets and growth are delivered across a wider footprint. You’ll play a central role in shaping that future, influencing new structures, defining priorities, and ensuring the organisation is ready to take its next step.

In your first year, you’ll build on a strong foundation, maintaining financial stability, progressing a significant programme of capital receipts and disposals, and driving forward key programmes such as school place delivery and the future of our corporate estate. Alongside this, you’ll bring clarity and direction to our growth and development functions, and establish yourself as a trusted, strategic voice shaping what comes next.

You’ll already be operating at a senior level within a complex, large-scale environment. You bring the commercial confidence to lead major programmes and partnerships, alongside the political awareness to navigate a public sector context with credibility and impact. Just as importantly, you’ll bring a clear sense of purpose and a belief that great places don’t just happen, they’re created through thoughtful leadership, collaboration and a commitment to community outcomes.

You’ll be joining a stable, high-performing and collaborative leadership team, with strong foundations already in place across property, planning and growth. This is a role where you can make an immediate difference and leave a lasting legacy.

You will care deeply about people, culture and organisational wellbeing, creating an environment where colleagues feel engaged, supported and motivated to deliver their best for Nottinghamshire's communities.

If you’re ready to join us in our goal to create a better, more prosperous county for everyone in Nottinghamshire, apply now.
