Job summary
Band 6 Radiographer X-ray (Stanmore and Bolsover Street). Full time position.

Must have a minimum of 2 years NHS experience.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation.

We are looking for a flexible and enthusiastic HCPC registered radiographer with good general X-ray experience to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will rotate between the two sites (Stanmore and Bolsover Street). DXA scanning experience is desirable but not essential and training will be given where required.

The X-ray department has 5 general x-ray rooms (3 at the main site in Stanmore and 2 at Bolsover Street in central London) 1 Fluoroscopy unit , 5 portable ward machines and a DXA scanner. There are 15 theatres along with image intensifiers, there are also O-Arm and Cios Spin machines. We have also installed EOS and HiRise Ped CT scanners which are operational. Radiographers will have the opportunity to train in both.

The X-ray department opens Monday to Saturday with on- call cover during out of hours, and bank holidays. The department is closed on Sundays.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious general radiographer to gain experience in specialised orthopaedic imaging

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work across all areas of the X-ray department including theatres, Fluoroscopy, out-patients /in-patient main x-ray, HiRise CT, EOS and DEXA centre. You will be expected to provide high quality diagnostic images whilst ensuring patient care and safety is paramount.

You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants and will be expected to be a senior presence within the department and involved in the teaching of students and more junior members of staff.

You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the imaging service and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.

You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be flexible as the department operates 8am to 8:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm on Saturday. There is also a requirement to participate in on call duties.

Working closely with colleagues you will manage the day to day running of the area you are working in and liaise with other teams and staff members to ensure the effective use of the imaging service.

You will work according to Trust and departmental level protocols and ensure you comply with IRMER2017 and IRR17 regulations at all times, ensuring all patient radiation doses are as low as reasonably practicable and that every exposure is justified.

You will ensure the safety of all patients and staff who enter the radiation controlled areas.

You will be expected to keep accurate patient records and manage patient images on PACS

Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc Radiography or equivalent. A minimum of 2 years post registration NHS UK experience.
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of CPD in line with your personal development plan.

Desirable
  • Post graduate courses relevant to orthopaedic imaging
  • Radiation Protection Certificate.
  • DXA experience

Experience
Essential
  • A wide range of general radiographic experience with emphasis on orthopaedic (Theatre, Fluoroscopy, General) imaging
  • Experience of coordinating the theatre, ward and X-ray services.
  • Experience of working out of hours.
  • Specialist knowledge and training of orthopaedic imaging procedures in order to manage clients with complex needs.
  • Experience of performing routine x-ray equipment quality assurance tests.

Desirable
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team. Experience in DEXA imaging.
  • Experience of training, junior staff, students and trainee assistant practitioners in the clinical setting.
  • Experience of performing specialised orthopaedic research procedures.

Skills
Essential
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must have a patient-focused approach to work.
  • General administrative skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently. and within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Organisational and time Management skills. Must be able to organize your own and others workload. Ability to prioritise workload.

  • Previous involvement with audit day programmes
  • Ability to bring two different teams together to work on solving an issue.
  • Good working knowledge of CRIS and PACS

Knowledge
Essential
  • Must have a working knowledge of IR(ME)R and Health & Safety Regulations.
  • An extensive knowledge of radiographic techniques and pathology with particular emphasis on orthopaedics.
  • Knowledge of computers / RIS and PACS systems.
  • Understanding of the need for confidentiality and data protection.

Desirable
  • Detailed knowledge of a set of Employers IRMER procedures.
