Job description

CORE PURPOSE

We are seeking a passionate, engaging Religious Education (RE) Teacher to deliver high-impact Philosophy, Ethics, and World Religions lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 opportunities). Working closely with the Head of Humanities and department colleagues, the successful candidate will foster open dialogue, critical thinking, and mutual respect while driving academic achievement across a broad, modern RE curriculum.

THE SCHOOL

Set in an attractive, modern campus featuring dedicated humanities suites, open learning hubs, and community facilities, this energetic secondary academy serves over 1,000 pupils across the county. The school blends high academic ambition with a strongly supportive, inclusive culture where teaching staff benefit from structured professional development. The RE and Humanities department operates as a collaborative, forward-thinking team, using digital learning tools, topical debate structures, and primary resource studies to empower pupils to explore complex philosophical, ethical, and theological issues.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver high-quality, differentiated RE schemes of work across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, exploring major world faiths, ethical frameworks, and contemporary moral questions.

  • Exam Preparation & GCSE Support: Prepare students thoroughly for GCSE Religious Studies examinations, guiding essay-writing strategies, analytical skills, and delivering targeted student interventions.

  • Discussion & Debate Facilitation: Lead respectful, structured classroom debates, encouraging students to develop reasoned arguments and appreciate diverse worldview perspectives.

  • Assessment & Student Tracking: Monitor and evaluate pupil progress using regular formative and summative assessments, providing clear feedback to support pupil attainment.

  • Pastoral & Extracurricular Duties: Act as a dedicated form tutor, supporting pupil well-being and contributing to school assemblies, interfaith events, and educational visits.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a relevant degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, Humanities, or a related discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced educators are equally encouraged to apply.

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Religious Education / Religious Studies at secondary level (KS3/KS4) within a UK mainstream school or academy setting.

  • Skills: Strong subject knowledge across world religions and ethics, excellent classroom management, and the ability to inspire critical, open-minded thinking in all pupils.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • Local Area & Community: Based in the picturesque county of Nottinghamshire, the school serves an ambitious, welcoming, and culturally rich community. Famous for its deep Robin Hood folklore, historic market towns such as Newark and Mansfield, and expansive natural landmarks like Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire offers a wonderful environment for families and professionals alike.

  • Transport & Commuting: Nottinghamshire boasts exceptional transport connectivity, with immediate road access via the M1 motorway (Junctions 24 to 28), A1, A46, and A60 corridors. Public transit is extensive across the region, featuring comprehensive local bus services, East Midlands Railway connections, and NET tram services into central Nottingham, offering fast routes across the East Midlands and down to London.
