Job Overview THIS ROLE IS OPEN TO RUH EMPLOYEES ONLY Maternity Leave (18.2 hours per week) – Beginning of October 2026 Help shape safer care and improve patient outcomes Are you passionate about patient safety, quality improvement and learning from incidents? We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Divisional Quality and Patient Safety Team to provide Maternity leave Cover for the part-time Patient Safety & Quality Advisor role. This is an exciting opportunity to develop expertise in patient safety, investigation and quality improvement while making a meaningful contribution to the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care. Working under the direction of the Patient Safety & Quality Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of the patient safety, quality, risk management, clinical effectiveness and patient experience agenda across the Division. You will help embed the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and support a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement across clinical services. * We are seeking an experienced individual with experience in healthcare and ideally this will include a background in either governance, quality, risk management, or patient safety. Main duties of the job As a fixed term Patient Safety & Quality Advisor, you will manage a delegated and supervised caseload of Patient Safety Learning Responses, ensuring investigations are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, patients, families and carers, you will help ensure investigations are conducted with compassion, transparency and professionalism. The role offers opportunities for professional development in patient safety science, systems-based investigation, human factors, governance and quality improvement. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities Applicants should refer to the attached job description and person specification for further information about the role. * The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and present findings clearly and effectively to a range of audiences. * The successful candidate will be organised, proactive, and capable of managing competing priorities in a busy environment. * A sound understanding of patient safety, quality improvement, or clinical governance principles is desirable. * You will be able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support learning, improvement, and positive patient outcomes Person specification Qualifications And Training Essential criteria * Educated to Degree level or equivalent working experience * Evidence of continuing professional development in patient safety and quality & improvement * Professional registration with the NMC or HCPC Desirable criteria * Teaching or training qualification * Recognised qualification in patient safety and quality improvement (e.g. QSIR) Knowledge and Experience Essential criteria * Knowledge of the NHS patient safety strategy and how it can be implemented. * Knowledge of systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles * Ability to communicate effectively with clinical, academic and all levels of staff Desirable criteria * Detailed understanding of Improvement Science and knowledge and experience of developments in the field. * Experience of involvement in front line delivery of quality improvement programmes and initiatives.
