The post is designed to provide advanced, hands-on training in neuro-endovascular techniques, supporting the transition of an experienced Interventional Radiologist to independent Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) practice. The successful candidate will work within a high-performing hyper-acute stroke service, gaining extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of acute ischaemic stroke under the supervision of experienced Interventional Neuroradiologists. The fellowship will support the development of competencies aligned to the GMC Credential curriculum and Royal College of Radiologists requirements, with structured educational supervision, regular progress reviews and opportunities to contribute to service development, research and quality improvement activities. The appointment is for 12-24 months, dependent on previous neuro-interventional experience and training needs.

Main duties of the job
Participate in assessment, selection & management of patients for Mechanical Thrombectomy through interpretation of hyper-acute stroke imaging; CT, CTA, CTP and MRI. Develop expertise in endovascular thrombectomy procedures; progress from supervised to independent practice, advanced skills in intracranial catheter navigation, microcatheter techniques, stent retriever deployment and aspiration thrombectomy. Contribute to management of complex neurovascular cases, inc. procedural complications & use of salvage angioplasty/stenting as appropriate.

Support the regional hyper-acute stroke thrombectomy rota & delivery of a 24/7 thrombectomy service. Maintain broader diagnostic & interventional radiology competencies via participation in general interventional radiology & emergency diagnostic services, inc. on-call commitments. Work collaboratively with regional stroke teams & multidisciplinary colleagues, providing specialist neurovascular imaging & interventional expertise.

Maintain a comprehensive procedural logbook & portfolio demonstrating progression against the Mechanical Thrombectomy credential curriculum. Actively contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, education and research to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
