Job description

We are recruiting a Therapist Assistant to join our team!

Southern Hill Hospital is preparing to open a new specialist Addiction Treatment Service for adults aged 18 and over, providing high-quality, person-centred support for individuals affected by substance misuse and co-occurring mental health needs.

Our new service is being developed to offer compassionate, evidence-based care within a safe and therapeutic environment where individuals can begin rebuilding stability, confidence, and independence.

Duties

  • Assist licensed occupational therapists in implementing therapy programmes tailored to individual patient needs
  • Support patients during therapy sessions, encouraging participation and engagement
  • Prepare therapy materials and equipment required for sessions
  • Monitor patient progress and report observations to the supervising therapist
  • Maintain accurate documentation of therapy activities and patient responses
  • Support patients with daily activities, promoting independence and confidence
  • Contribute to the organisation of therapy schedules and appointments
  • Uphold health and safety standards within the clinical environment
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to ensure cohesive care delivery

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification as an Occupational Therapist Assistant or equivalent recognised training programme
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients of all ages and backgrounds
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Basic IT skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Experience or interest in teaching or guiding patients through therapeutic exercises is advantageous
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Compassionate approach with excellent organisational skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to healthcare regulations
