This is a highly autonomous advanced practice role, offering the opportunity to work across our Oncology Ward and Chemotherapy Day Unit, supporting patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). You'll work alongside consultants, pharmacists, nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary team to drive clinical excellence whilst improving patient outcomes and experience.

How you'll help us make health happen
As our SACT Specialist Nurse, you'll be the clinical expert supporting the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments and advanced oncology care.

You will:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients commencing SACT treatment, particularly Day 1 Cycle 1 patients.
  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing evaluation of oncology patients.
  • Independently prescribe within your scope of practice and order appropriate investigations to support patient care.
  • Manage acutely unwell oncology patients, escalating concerns appropriately and working closely with consultants and the wider MDT.
  • Lead and champion best practice in the safe administration of SACT across inpatient and day unit services.
  • Act as an expert clinical resource for nursing colleagues, providing mentorship, supervision and support.
  • Deliver education, competency assessments and training programmes to nursing teams, including SACT competency development and UKONS passport standards.
  • Support clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development projects.
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to develop and embed policies, protocols and pathways that enhance patient safety and care quality.
  • Be a visible clinical leader who promotes continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and outstanding patient care.

Key Skills / Qualifications
Essential:
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
  • Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification.
  • Post-registration qualification in Oncology, Haematology, SACT administration or equivalent experience.
  • UKONS Passport or willingness to complete.
  • Teaching, mentoring or assessing qualification/experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience within an acute oncology setting.
  • Experience prescribing and managing complex oncology patients autonomously.
  • Current experience working within oncology or haematology services.
  • Experience of administering SACT.
  • Strong knowledge of SACT protocols, toxicities and cancer standards.
  • Chemotherapy assessment and triage skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while building effective multidisciplinary relationships.

Desirable:
  • ALS Instructor qualification.
  • Experience within private healthcare.
  • Experience leading quality improvement or audit projects.
  • Previous leadership or team development experience.
