Job summary
Are you an inspiring pharmacy leader with a passion for improving patient care, developing people and shaping services for the future?

We are seeking an experienced and motivated pharmacist to lead pharmacy services at The Walton Centre, one of the UK's leading specialist neuroscience organisations. This is a opportunity to provide strategic and operational leadership in a centre of excellence, while working as part of the wider Liverpool University Hospitals Group Pharmacy Team.

You will lead a talented multidisciplinary pharmacy team and work closely with clinicians senior leaders to deliver safe, effective and high-quality medicines services. You will play a key role in medicines safety, clinical governance, quality improvement, workforce development, service transformation and financial stewardship.

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious pharmacy leader to join The Walton Centre Trust as Site Lead Pharmacist. As the senior leader, you will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality pharmacy services.

You will lead the planning, development and delivery of pharmacy services, driving innovation, continuous improvement and service excellence. Working closely with senior clinical, operational colleagues, you will help shape future service models and deliver improvements in quality, performance, productivity and patient outcomes.

You will provide expert leadership in medicines optimisation across neurosciences services. You will support the safe, evidence-based use of medicines, work with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient pathways, and ensure delivery of high-quality patient care.

The role includes responsibility for workforce leadership and development. You will lead workforce planning, recruitment, training and performance management, creating a positive culture that supports learning, innovation and continuous improvement.

You will also provide leadership for medicines governance, safety and quality, overseeing incident management, risk reduction, assurance reporting and quality improvement. Representing pharmacy at Trust, and system level, you will build strong partnerships across organisations and help deliver outstanding pharmacy services for patients.

Job responsibilities
As our Neurosciences Site Lead, you will be at the heart of a dynamic and challenging environment. You will be responsible for a multi-faceted portfolio that blends high-level strategy with operational delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Strategic and Operational Leadership Lead and manage pharmacy services at Walton Centre NHS FT, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality service delivery aligned to Trust and Group priorities.
  • Clinical Leadership and Medicines Optimisation Provide senior clinical leadership to support the safe, evidence-based use of medicines across neurosciences services and improve patient outcomes.
  • Workforce Management and Development Lead, support and develop the pharmacy workforce through recruitment, performance management, education and professional development.
  • Medicines Safety, Governance and Risk Provide oversight of medicines safety, incident management, risk reduction, audit and governance processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Financial and Service Improvement Leadership Manage delegated budgets, deliver cost improvement programmes and lead service developments that enhance quality, efficiency and patient care.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered Non-medical Prescriber
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
  • Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experiential learning

Desirable
  • Management or leadership qualification, or equivalent senior leadership development

Experience
Essential
  • Significant post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, including senior leadership of clinical and operational services and management of complex service delivery in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience of working in Neurosciences
  • Experience of leading day-to-day operational delivery of a hospital pharmacy service
  • Experience of incident oversight, governance, audit, risk management, performance reporting and delivery of service assurance
  • Experience of workforce leadership, including rota management, recruitment, performance management and staff development
  • Experience of budget management, financial control, financial reporting and delivery of cost improvement programmes within a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working effectively with senior clinical, managerial and governance colleagues across organisational boundaries, influencing decisions, leading service change and delivering organisational priorities
  • Significant experience in medicines safety, including the leadership, investigation and learning of incidents in line with PSIRF principles
  • Experience working within clinical governance frameworks including legislation relating to PGD, NMP and controlled drugs.
  • Clinical pharmacy experience in the relevant area
