Main duties of the jobAs our Senior Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide expert clinical leadership for medicines management across the hospital's elective surgical services. Working alongside consultants and multidisciplinary teams, you will optimise medication use throughout the patient journey, ensuring safe, effective and evidence-based care.
You will lead on clinical governance, medicines optimisation, audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, helping to develop and enhance pharmacy services as the organisation continues to grow. The role also involves supporting pre-assessment clinics, advising clinicians on complex medication queries, reviewing treatment plans, contributing to antimicrobial stewardship, and ensuring compliance with CQC requirements and Royal Pharmaceutical Society standards.

Job responsibilitiesAs our Senior Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide expert clinical pharmacy services across the hospital, ensuring the safe, effective and evidence-based use of medicines throughout the elective surgical patient journey. Clinical Responsibilities- Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services across elective surgical pathways.
- Undertake comprehensive medication reviews for elective surgical inpatients and outpatients, identifying drug interactions, contraindications and opportunities for medicines optimisation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary pre-assessment clinics across specialties including Orthopaedics, Plastics, Gynaecology and other surgical services.
- Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to consultants, clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Independently prescribe medicines within your scope of practice (where appropriately qualified).
- Optimise perioperative medication regimens to improve patient outcomes and reduce avoidable complications.
- Support antimicrobial stewardship programmes and promote evidence-based, cost-effective prescribing.
Medicines Governance & Patient Safety- Develop, implement and maintain medicines management policies specific to elective surgical pathways.
- Lead the development of clinical pharmacy standards across the hospital.
- Support compliance with CQC medicines management requirements and regulatory standards.
- Ensure pharmacy services align with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Professional Standards for Hospital Pharmacy Services.
