Job description

Lead Support Worker (Day Centre and Outreach) | Croydon | Full Time | £28,676 per annum

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of homeless and vulnerable people?

Established in 1981, CAYSH has been dedicated to transforming the lives of homeless young people and vulnerable adults, providing safe homes and unlocking life-changing opportunities. As a charity and not-for-profit based in vibrant South London, we are on a mission to expand our impact across London and beyond.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with two other organisations to set up a new Day Centre for homeless and vulnerably housed people. Funded by the MHCGL, CAYSH is collaborating with Croydon Voluntary Action and Spires to deliver this service as part of the Ending Homelessness in Communities Fund.

The successful candidate will be a key team member at a new Day Centre 3 days per week and provide community outreach in the heart of Croydon for a further 2 days.

As the Lead Support Worker, you will actively find and connect with young people forced into homelessness or those living in unstable accommodation. You will help them secure suitable accommodation and access the services needed to rebuild their independence.

Homeless prevention is another key aspect of the role, as you will proactively help individuals maintain their housing, find long-term accommodation and break the cycle of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support individuals experiencing homelessness or unstable accommodation
  • Help service users secure suitable accommodation and access relevant services
  • Provide community outreach support across Croydon
  • Develop person-centred support plans
  • Support individuals experiencing emotional distress, mental health issues and/or the effects of substance misuse
  • Distribute supplies such as food and clothing
  • Help individuals maintain their housing and prevent homelessness
  • Produce and maintain accurate and detailed records, including support and risk management plans
  • Manage access to the Day Centre and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour

What We’re Looking For

  • Working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Ability to recognise signs of crisis and risk and respond appropriately
  • Confidence, resilience and assertiveness
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour
  • Ability to produce and maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Reliability and excellent attendance
  • Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and evidence of the right to work in the UK

What’s In It For You

  • 25 days’ annual leave in addition to bank holidays
  • Professional development and training
  • Access to an Employer’s Assistance Programme offering a range of personal and employment support services
  • Occupational Health and Wellbeing support
  • Company pension
