Job summary
Expert Lead Cardiac Physiologist in Transthoracic Echocardiography

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, dynamic individual to join the department.

The applicant must currently be working as an expert independent clinical practitioner who provides clinical expertise at an expert specialist level. Candidates will be required to assist the departmental management team in providing strategic management leadership. Applicant's must have the ability to work under pressure and be able to prioritise their own workload, as well as work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality diagnostic service and educational at both undergraduate and post graduate level.

This position offers excellent developmental opportunities and requires the individual to be a positive driver for change within cardiac diagnostic services at North Manchester General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
Provide leadership and development for all practitioners in the Clinical physiology department within the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre.

As an expert in the field provide advice to external institutions, inclusive of primary care and all professional bodies within Cardiology.

Exercise initiative and judgement in solving problems and making decisions that affect own areas of work recognising when there is a need to refer problems to Senior Management or Consultant staff.

Independently collates complex clinical information from multiple sources to determine optimal procedure methodology

Independently selects sets-up & operates complex medical equipment as indicated for each procedure

Independently obtains analyses complex data, performs complex calculations, determines interpretation and independently compiles accurate written complex technical reports for case notes

Communicates independent interpretations of complex technical & physiological data to guide physicians throughout high risk provocative procedures (e.g. during cardiac imaging procedures)

Analyses highly complex data, performs complex calculations, determines interpretation and independently compiles accurate written complex technical reports for case notes

Regularly supervises individuals working/observing in the clinical environment including visitors from other trusts and organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc Clinical Cardiac Physiology/ BSc in Healthcare Science cardiology or qualifying equivalent qualification
  • BSE Accreditation in echocardiography
  • Up to date ILS

Desirable
  • MSc or equivalent expertise at this level
  • Teaching qualification (T4T, D32)
  • Leadership/ management qualification
  • State Registration - HCPC or AHCS (Voluntary)

Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable experience post basic experience in technical cardiology
  • Experience of managing a cardiology department or an area of cardiology in a large tertiary centre inc organisational and personal management
  • Practical & formal teaching of Cardiac Physiologists and other HCSs
  • Organisation/provision of education/training courses at a regional level
  • Multi-disciplinary team work

Desirable
  • Tertiary cardiac physiology practise
  • Invasive cardiac physiology practise
  • Participation in cardiac research

Knowledge
Essential
  • High level knowledge of a wide range of cardiac physiology diagnostics/interventions
  • Understands the role of cardiac physiology within the NHS
  • Understands the organisation of the NHS
  • Recognises the implications of the NSFs, NICE, Occupational standards and other applicable NHS directives

Desirable
  • Expert specialist knowledge of Cardiac Imaging
  • Knowledge of a wide range of tertiary diagnostics/ interventions
  • Knowledge of Electronic Staff Register
