About Barts Cancer Centre
Our Cancer Centre has an international reputation for delivering world-class care to patients with both common and rare cancers. Serving over 1.5 million people across northeast London, Essex and further afield, we provide specialist cancer services supported by cutting-edge technology and an expert multidisciplinary team.

About the Brachytherapy Service
Based at the internationally renowned St Bartholomew's Hospital in the heart of the City of London, our brachytherapy service delivers gynaecological HDR treatment using Varian Bravos, alongside lower GI treatment using Papillon contact brachytherapy, both integrated onto the Radiotherapy ARIA network.

You'll work closely with medical, physics, nursing and theatre colleagues in a highly specialised, procedure-based environment, with genuine scope to shape technique, training and service development as the role grows.

Our Culture
We pride ourselves on a strong culture of learning, education, and support. Professional development is actively encouraged, and you'll be supported to identify and pursue opportunities that enhance your skills and career progression.

Main duties of the job
What you'll do
  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the brachytherapy service, ensuring safe and accurate treatment delivery across gynaecological and lower GI (Papillon) pathways.
  • Lead/support Radiographer-led vaginal vault insertions, including training and competency assessment of other radiographers.
  • Lead, supervise and mentor radiographers rotating through brachytherapy, and support recruitment, induction and competency assessment.
  • Work closely with Radiotherapy Physics to verify treatment prescriptions and plans, and ensure ongoing treatment accuracy and QA compliance.
  • Deputise for the Brachytherapy Operational Manager, supporting service leadership during periods of absence.
  • Lead service improvement, audit and research activity, and support the adoption of new brachytherapy techniques and technologies.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and bank holiday working, with flexibility to support the service during scheduled and unscheduled linac downtime.
