Job description

Autism Support Mentor | Psychology Graduates Welcome! | Full-Time | September Start

Do you have a naturally kind, patient and upbeat personality?
Interested in psychology, mental health, autism or child development?
Looking for a role where you can genuinely make a difference every single day?

This could be the perfect opportunity for you.

We're looking for an Autism Support Mentor to join a truly special Autism Resource Base within a welcoming secondary school. Although the base is located on the school site, you'll work entirely within the dedicated ASD provision, creating a calm, nurturing and supportive environment for young people aged 11-16.

This isn't a typical secondary school setting. The Autism Base offers a peaceful, structured environment where relationships come first, anxiety is understood, and every small achievement is celebrated.

Whether you're a Psychology graduate, have studied Education, Sociology, Health & Social Care, Criminology, Childhood Studies or simply have experience supporting young people, we'd love to hear from you.

What makes this role so rewarding?

You'll become a trusted adult for pupils with Autism who may also experience anxiety and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Many students follow an adapted curriculum, with some working at a primary level, while others are supported all the way through to GCSEs. Every day is varied, meaningful and full of opportunities to build confidence and independence.

No two days are ever the same!

Your day could include...

  • Supporting students during engaging classroom activities
  • Helping pupils access learning at a pace that suits them
  • Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
  • Supporting emotional regulation using calm and positive approaches
  • Taking part in practical life skills sessions including cooking, budgeting and independence activities
  • Celebrating achievements—big and small
  • Building genuine, trusting relationships with students
  • Working alongside an incredibly friendly and supportive specialist team

We're looking for someone who is...

✨ Warm, bubbly and approachable

✨ Patient, calm and emotionally resilient

✨ Creative and able to bring their own personality and ideas into the classroom

✨ Passionate about supporting young people

✨ Interested in Autism, psychology or child development

✨ Comfortable working with teenagers in a nurturing environment

Previous Teaching Assistant experience is not essential. If you've worked with children or teenagers through schools, youth work, coaching, care, tutoring, mentoring or similar settings, we'd love to hear from you.

Psychology graduates are particularly encouraged to apply!
