Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs) are highly experienced and educated members of the critical care team. After undertaking extensive training and development, they are empowered to make high-level clinical decisions in the diagnosis and treatment of complex critically ill patients.

Main duties of the job
The ACCP team at University Hospitals of North Midlands is well-established and respected, consisting of 12 qualified practitioners. They work as part of the medical team under the supervision of Critical Care Consultants. Duties include: undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments, requesting and interpreting diagnostic tests and initiating and managing clinical treatment plans including the prescription of medication. ACCPs are also trained to perform advanced procedures such as central venous catheter insertion, bronchoscopy, arterial line insertion and advanced ultrasound skills.

About us

At University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust we know that investing in, supporting and developing our staff has a direct impact on the quality of care that we deliver. Our employees are as important as our patients and the population that we serve.

Job responsibilities
All our qualified ACCPs have a job plan that reflect the 4 pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice which reflects their own areas of interest and use of their specialist knowledge, skills and experience to contribute to the critical care unit innovation and development.

Applicants should have substantial experience within Critical Care, to include 3 years in a senior position of band 6 or above. You will have a degree or be able to demonstrate academic ability at degree level.

A high level of commitment and dedication is required to successfully complete the ACCP training, both academically and clinically. We are, therefore, looking for people who can demonstrate their commitment to the specialty through a detailed record of continuous professional development and evidence of involvement in projects or activities that have added benefit to themselves or their unit.

ACCPs provide valuable clinical leadership.
