In every role, McCainers are ambitious, curious, and passionate about creating exceptional work experiences - together. With a customer-first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.

About the role.

At Scarborough, we're looking for someone who goes beyond compliance - someone who can shape culture, influence leaders, and inspire teams they don't directly manage. Of course, safety is non-negotiable.

We are always Safety First. For Us, For Family.

So much so, we've built our own internal safety brand - because making sure every colleague goes home safely to their family and friends isn't just a priority, it's part of who we are. But this role? It's bigger than that. This is about setting the bar - not just for Scarborough, but for the wider business. It's about embedding a safety mindset so deeply that it becomes instinctive. Lived. Breathed. Owned by everyone.

What you'll be doing.

You'll sit at the heart of the site leadership team, influencing thinking, challenging norms, and driving a culture where safety isn't driven by process... but by people. Because here, HSE isn't a function. It's a culture. And for the right person, this is more than a role - it's a genuine opportunity to grow your career, with a pathway towards future Director-level appointments.

You will be able to.

Influence and coach leaders to take true ownership of safety Build belief and accountability across teams you don't directly lead Turn strategy into everyday behaviours on the ground Create momentum - where safety is continuously improving, not standing still Flex your leadership style to get the best out of our teams and processes You will be accountable for.

Driving safe working practices and ensuring full legal compliance Shaping HSE strategy and influencing policy development Leading risk assessments and safe systems of work Embedding HSE standards through daily site presence and coaching Delivering impactful training and inductions Investigating incidents to identify root causes and prevent recurrence Leading audits, inspections, and compliance reporting Owning ISO 45001 & 14001 systems and audit plans Partnering with SLT, HR and Occupational Health on key issues Driving continuous improvement through data, insights and scorecards Leading emergency preparedness and environmental compliance What you'll need to be successful.

NEBOSH General Certificate & National Diploma (essential) Environmental qualification (essential) Experience within a senior HSE role in manufacturing (7-10 years) Knowledge of ISO 45001 (essential) and ISO 14001 (desirable) An engineering background and familiarity working within manufacturing environments Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills An adaptable mindset, an appreciation of the need to adjust your style when the need arises Experience in food manufacturing, HACCP or DuPont methodologies (desirable) About the team.

You'll be based at our Scarborough plant in North Yorkshire. We opened this plant back in the swinging sixties, but it's definitely not stuck in the past. It's one of the largest French fry factories in the world and after a recent development, it's also one of the most high tech. Our team of over 300 colleagues work hard to make sure the quality of our products keep our customers returning for more, for now and years to come!

The Benefits

Although we do encourage you to taste the goods you'll be pleased to know we don't pay you in 'chips'. For working hard, you'll also get a great salary and some pretty good benefits including:

An achievable yearly bonus based on personal performance. An excellent pension where we will pay double what you do, up to a maximum of 12% of your pay Flexible holidays - where you can buy & sell up to 5 days holiday per year Optional health cash plan Cycle to work scheme 'Chips In' Volunteering Day Off - to make a positive impact to the competitiveness, resilience, and long-term development of McCain communities across the globe Leadership principles.

At McCain, our leadership principles guide how we engage with customers, collaborate as a team, and achieve success. We focus on understanding customer needs, driving innovation, empowering people, and taking ownership to clear obstacles and deliver results.

We are customer obsessed.

Customers are our starting point. By understanding their needs and leveraging data and consumer insights, we drive mutual success. We think big and plan ahead.

Through ambition, curiosity, and smart risks, we can accomplish goals, refine processes, and innovate to scale success. We bring out the best in our people.

We create safe spaces for our people so that trust and empowerment come naturally. Inclusion is about listening first, showing humility, and working together. We act like owners.

Together, we clear obstacles and do the work that makes us all successful and proud to be part of McCain. The McCain experience.

We are McCain. This statement is a testament to our collective strength and our individual value. Your contributions play a vital role in our success. Our winning culture is rooted in authenticity and trust, empowering us to bring out the best in one another. Here, you'll find opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. Join us and experience why we're better together.

Our purpose is grounded in building meaningful relationships. We're big believers in the power of working together in person-it helps us stay connected, collaborate more effectively, and grow as a team. At the same time, we recognize the importance of flexibility. Most office-based roles follow a hybrid model, with the option to work remotely two days a week. There may be exceptions depending on the role and location, so we encourage you to speak with your recruiter for more details.
