Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term postition as a deputy ward leader within the fracture clinic / orthopaedic outpatients department. The post is for 12 months covering maternity leave.

The post holder will have delegated responsibility and will be supported by the department leader based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, to lead and manage a the team in their absence.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Deputy ward / department leader at County site and ensure consistency in ways of working across both sites.

With indirect supervision, the post holder will be supported to lead the day to day running of the clinic, promoting care excellence and positive patient experience.

There will be the opportunity to be involved with a new initiative: Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) and also to support the department leader, directorate management team and clinicians to make changes and develop their services.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensure the safe running of fracture clinic, plaster room and associated elective outpatient clinics within the departmentwhich may involve travel to support either Royal Stoke or County site according to service needs.
  • Providespecialist advice in relation to care of patients in fracture clinic, plaster room and associated elective outpatient clinics within the department.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the staff, providing clinical and managerial support to Registered Staff and support staff.
  • Responsible for work allocation and checking of tasks of support staff and/or less experienced staff.
  • May berequiredto support the Virtual Fracture Clinic according to service need.
  • Has specialist knowledge of orthopaedic conditions which is ideally supplemented by specialist training:the British Orthopaedic Association casting certificate thusensuringthe provision ofhigh-qualitycare in the department.
  • Deputise fortheward leaderatDirectorate/ Divisional meetings and working groups.
  • Facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities beingidentifiedwithin the multi-professional team.

Essential Qualifications
Essential
  • Current NMC registration
  • Evidence of degree level study
  • Mentorship course or equivalent

Desirable
  • Formal leadership & management training
  • Holder of the BOA casting certificate

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of 5 years experience within orthopaedics or relevant supporting experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within a fracture clinic or similar setting
  • Ability to lead change or new ways of working

Desirable
  • Experience within a band 6 role within a fracture clinic, orthopaedics or a similar setting
